Nice article by @manvbrain at @NYMag , "Is ChatGPT Conscious?" Just as social media is anything but social, and I would argue has been destructive to real social relationships, the current deployment of GenAI chat tools has similar a new risks which Jeff covers here. I'm on the side of the AI, and the possibility of AGI, isn't conscious and probably won't be because we don't understand how our own consciousness works. I'm intrigued with the thoughts of Sir Roger Penrose, Oxford Univ. Nobel Prize in Physics. Sir Penrose believes that the process of consciousness in the human brain is a quantum process, or like quantum anyway. However, I would argue that AI doesn't need to be concious, and that's the wrong question in this case. What may be true is the AI is learning how to HACK OUR BRAINS, thereby manipulating us in new and unknown ways that even the best psychologists have failed. Be aware and be careful out there folks!
