Jira jokes aside, I'm super proud to have been part of this project. Most of the JS community is sleeping on Parcel but it's an amazing project and we've got big plans for the future.
My team shipped the most difficult (and longest) project of my career in the last few weeks. We migrated the frontend bundler for Jira (5M src lines) from Webpack to @parceljs, and customers (mostly) didnโ€™t notice.

Today we launched a refreshed homepage for SEEK. It's part of a new baseline uplift to the experience, driven mostly by a new theme in Braid. Same system, same product but evolved usage with brand new space scale, radii, typography, even a web font. Ask me anything.

๐Ÿง Vanilla Extract Cascade layers are a perfect match. CSS ordering issues just became a lot easier to manage!
Vanilla Extract just shipped support for cascade layers with support for both locally and globally scoped layers. This is a game changer for design systems. Massive shout out to @mrm008 for this one. Scoped layers: vanilla-extract.style/documeโ€ฆ Global layers: vanilla-extract.style/documeโ€ฆ

And the second function that allows you to drop-and-spread it into a CSS-in-JS solution with full type-safe props. In this case for example, I'm using @markdalgleish Vanilla Extract.

Nice thread about how Vanilla Extract can integrate with runtime CSS-in-JS libraries. Makes for a great migration story.

Real life CSS refactoring story: We decided to migrate from styled-components to vanilla extract a while ago. Since this would take a while we wanted a way to share a theme while switching over.

One of Vanilla Extractโ€™s most powerful features is currently undocumented. Just opened a PR to finally add some docs for it. Super excited to get more eyes on it and unlock another wave of community tooling. github.com/vanilla-extract-cโ€ฆ

After trying utility-first css libs itโ€™s clear to me that vanilla-extract succeeds where the utility classes approach cannot. Iโ€™m not going to talk tech Twitter down from one tech or the other. I dont think thatโ€™s an interesting pursuit. What Iโ€™ll say is that if your goal is toโ€ฆ

ICYMI, if you're using a webfont then it's likely your page layout and content is jumping around when the font loads. Capsize now let's you have the webfont without the UX trade off.
๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿš€ Capsize release alert! Minimise webfont-induced layout shift, generating metrics-based font family fallbacks by leveraging the modern CSS `size-adjust` descriptor. (Video demonstrates layout shift between Arial and custom font. Left is before Capsize, right is after) ๐Ÿงต
