The new 11th and 18th tees at Kingston Heath (playing as 7 and 14 in AO routing). 11 back 50 metres (playing across 10). 18 back 30 . Doesn't feel right. Keep those heads buried nice and deep, @USGA & @RandA. 🤦
That hole is 530 yards so he had approx 168 left which I assume for him is a 9 or wedge. No real test for him. Now if he hit the drive even 300 and had 230 to the hole that’s far more interesting test of ability through the bag. And if a great drive only went approx 285 then the hole would only need to be 475 yards to be a test of hitting a longer iron into the green. The cost of all this redesign stuff is astronomical and members are assessed fees on top of their dues and joining fee— not to mention these drivers are now close to $950 if you get an amped up shaft. A great full set of clubs shouldn’t cost too much more than that. The game is getting too expensive on all fronts. Gonna be only for the wealthy pretty soon. #notgrowingthegame
I think a ‘thank you’ to Wimbledon wouldn’t go astray…oh, I forgot, you’re suing them. If I may say, your fight is with the Tours, as the Slams deliver on compensation both at Slams themselves & their support at the lead up tournaments, manifested in compensation to the players
Great insight into the potential ruination of East Potomac Park from the perspective of those who appreciate classic architecture, and that of Walter Travis in particular.

Completely agree with Geoff that we are in the “steroids era of golf”
It’s a shame on many levels but mostly for the players who I believe are better but we actually don’t know how much better because they have equipment that has diluted so much of the challenge of the game.
After watching the women take on Riviera at the U.S. Women's Open, @GeoffShac reflected on how modern equipment has diminished both shot-making and stylistic variety in the men's game.

A decade into its remarkable rise, Cape Wickham Golf Links has become a modern links icon, where wild coastal landforms meet Bass Strait winds, shaping a golfing experience that still feels raw, rare and thrilling.

“That’s why I think golf is the greatest game of the all. It’s not just big strong people playing. It’s people that are smart, know their limitations and use their head.”

I think what’s frustrating is their opinions are being manipulated by companies that refuse to consider anything but market share or quarterly profits. No logical person would watch a pro golf tournament and say “Yes, watching them hit shorter clubs is the best.” But they have been convinced by years of marketing and now influencers being purchased that any changes are personally trying to make golf harder on them, the 15-handicap. It’s madness. Golf is now so grossly interwoven with equipment money (from messaging to literally funding the media we consume) that it’s like American health care, it would be almost impossible to untangle all the various remoras clinging to the host, profiting while insisting it’s serving the consumer. Baseball has made a lot of mistakes but imagine if we couldn’t contextualize Shohei Othani because some beer league softball player insisted they both be able to play the same double-walled metal bat.
"Looking back, we could have learned a lot by simply copying what he did."

Got in a sub-3 hour walk in this AM! The course stands as a pillar for what affordable public golf can be. Single cut fairways and tees, fantastic topography usage, defined strategic angles. So simple, but oh so effective! Must-play in W MI.
No, the fifth major should be a World Open. It should be moved around to any country other than the US and UK (and maybe ROI if they hold The Open there) such as Australia, Canada, NZ, France, South Africa, Japan, etc.
