Same data, two different charts! A reminder that context - and proper explanation etc is vital!

I’d rather have someone who executes a mediocre idea brilliantly than someone who talks about a brilliant idea forever. Execution beats perfection every time.

This is a glimpse of the future
24 May 2025
Our marketing team is just me and ~40 AI agents. I finally got around to putting them into an "org chart", and it's actually really cool to see! Plus, laying them out this way by sub-function (social media, blog, email, community, partners, etc) has given me a bunch of ideas of other agents I want to build. If you're interested in the full version (and the templates/screenshots for each agent), let me know and I'll send it over to you.

𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝟳,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱? These headlines feel scary: Microsoft is cutting 7,000 jobs, Salesforce and Shopify won't hire engineers this year, and developer job postings hit a four-year low. But an important distinction gets lost in the noise: 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀—it's changing what makes you valuable. Software developers were once tech royalty. Anyone with coding skills could land multiple offers and signing bonuses without a problem, butt hat landscape is transforming. According to recent data, traditional developer demand grew 22% between 2023 and 2024—solid growth by any standard. However, the demand for AI and machine learning engineers surged 148% in the same period. The narrative that "AI is killing dev jobs" misses the bigger picture: 1. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀. Microsoft isn't cutting 7,000 jobs because AI rendered them obsolete. Instead, it's freeing capital for its $80 billion AI investment this year and betting on a future where those investments create new opportunities. 2. 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱. Most major enterprises have built their core mobile apps. The focus now is on AI-driven enhancements rather than new standalone applications. 3. 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. While AI is doing basic coding work, developers must think creatively about building software aligned with business needs, check the code, and ensure AI-built apps can scale. Developers who use AI will win, not those who resist it. Here's how to position yourself: 🔹 𝗚𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲. AI still struggles with big-picture decision-making. If you want job security, make sure you're working at a level above what AI can handle. Focus on system architecture, problem-solving, and business strategy. 🔹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲. There's a high demand for developers with specific domain knowledge, such as healthcare and finance, and IT specialties, such as AI, security, and cloud architecture. Be an end-to-end owner and have a product-minded engineer mindset. 🔹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹. The most valuable developer isn't one who writes every line of code but who knows when to write it themselves and when to leverage AI. Think of AI as a junior developer who needs supervision but can handle repetitive tasks. Despite the obvious pain, we're entering an era of unprecedented leverage for skilled tech workers. The developers of tomorrow will accomplish in a day what used to take weeks. Is competition increasing? Yes. But so is the value you can deliver. The key isn't to fear AI's growth but to leverage it for quality and productivity. Source: FT.
