Hey @Benjojo12, any chance you'd publish bgp.tools's connectivity data as an open dataset? It looks much better/more accurate than any other dataset I can find. Use case: print a large poster for a while wall behind me 🙏

*a white wall :)
Every single @Benjojo12 writeup is a masterpiece.
I noticed myself and a few friends independently looking into tape storage over the last while. But there is a frustrating lack of guidance on operating tape drives outside of 1M$ products, so I present: --- LTO Tape data storage for Linux nerds blog.benjojo.co.uk/post/lto-…

Today I learned...
Not sure if this ever got tested, but since several countries now seem to be seriously pressed on PCR testing capacity ... it seems like evaluating bloom-filter style combinatorial scaling could do some good.

Hey @maznu, I love your #UKNOF48 slides (bit.ly/3x71Sfr). About that comment on Orkney's upwards rain: I made the same remark 13 years ago about building a WISP around Loch Hourn and Skye (bit.ly/32mhdh1). Oh now I miss 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 so much!

PSA: if you're in (most of) Europe and work with US-based colleagues or vice versa, remember that during the first work week of November the time difference shortens by 1hr. Why do we have to deal with this madness every year.🤯

Finally, yay!
The @stateofai 2021 is live! Est. 2018, @soundboy and I compile the most important work in AI research, industry, talent, and politics to inform conversation about the #stateofai. Our report is open-access to all. Here's a director's cut 🧵: stateof.ai/

That's a good selection! Full proceedings here: usenix.org/conference/nsdi21…
The Distributed Systems session in #nsdi21 was really fun and interesting. Here is a summary: 1) MilliSort and MilliQuery: Large-Scale Data-Intensive Computing in Milliseconds: Can we run a distributed bucket sort on 100s of servers in under a millisecond? (The answer is Yes!)

Oh don't worry, we'll just smooth it over time.
Replying to @GalileoSats
So how imminent is a negative leap second? This is the raw data since the 1960s. If this graph stays negative, take it seriously. At -1 millisecond deviation, it would take ~2 years.
What. the. heck.
One of the craziest things I've ever seen. This entire (moving) image is created in a manner similar to doodling with a graphing calculator. @iquilezles is the true Bob Ross of math. Tweak to a few functions here, suddenly a beautiful forest appears... youtu.be/8--5LwHRhjk

TIL: cilium now supports maglev-style consistent hashing (besides dozens of new cool features). If you've never heard Maglev, no worries: here's a super concise summary by @tgraf__
What is Maglev? A Thread. tl;dr: Maglev provides HA for network load-balancers. If you are in the cloud, then you are likely already using it. This is how Google and others make load-balancing reliable and scalable with commodity Linux servers.

I finally managed to read this post on "Bayesian Perspective on Q-Learning". Really recommended to all the bayesians out there! 🤣 brandinho.github.io/bayesian…
Agreed, @ykilcher is getting out of hand
Man hope i can read a paper before @ykilcher makes a video about it

I mean, yes, sure, cool mission. But can we talk about those gamers' blue monitor backlights?

"We're going in." "Touchdown declared. Sampling is in progress." @OSIRISREx touched the surface of asteroid Bennu to capture rocks & dust with its robotic arm. After this brief TAG (Touch-And-Go maneuver), it will fire thrusters to back away to a safe distance. #ToBennuAndBack

#wfh during lockdowns (on the right) cuts the daily variability of #ipv6 reach by half. That's _a lot_ of obsolete corporate networks.
Ok, so maybe I should start looking at @JuliaComputing seriously (slide credit @Viral_B_Shah 🙏)

Yes! It will hopefully work as extra peer-pressure to publish code&data...

Woo! #HTTP3 on #Chrome stable! 😳
