We too often conflate "the internet" with private platforms like #google that have very curated and stringent gatekeeping in order to deliver a tailored recreation of the open web. These are publishing platforms designed to deliver what they believe you will consume.
McLuhan rightfully warned us that "the medium is the message." It's always useful to scrutinize how this generation of centralized #web2 platforms is conditioning us and for what purpose.
Attack ideas, not people.
✅ Attacking an idea gives people room to change their mind.
❌ Attacking a person makes them fight for their life.
Depending how deeply an idea is embedded in someone's identity, you may find them quite unwilling to listen. Even violently so.
My past advisor and mentor Krzysztof Wodiczko once told me "an artist has to be good at two things, art and something else." Otherwise, you don't maintain the tension and openness that leads to innovation.
