Engineering professors in India need to write fewer papers and start more companies.

I don’t know whether to be happy or sad about it, but today the Government of India seems to be the only Indian deep tech VC with deep pockets of seemingly patient capital.
The Government of India just funded the most advanced Rocket fuel and the most advanced propulsion cycle globally - Astrobase. Love the way things are progressing.

Great article, especially if you are building technology solutions for the masses in India.

I am not sure why I am being targeted for these ads (I am too old to qualify). But, damn! These ads are very well done.

I think India has a very good idea about *what* to do with AI models. I don’t think India has a good idea about what to do with sovereign AI models. Or why use them. Like Dharmesh says (and what @fooobar has been saying forever), there is a solid case for sovereign models, but they have to deliver at the same levels as the rest. And that sovereign model providers need to invest in marketing and communication machinery like the rest of them at a global scale, goes without saying.
Claude Fable has been disabled worldwide. This is a sharp wake-up call for India. We must urgently invest in and build sovereign AI solutions right here at home. We’ve already outsourced our communication infrastructure to Meta. Let’s not repeat the same mistake with AI. Once Indians get a real taste of what AI can do, there’s no going back.

How did folks not see this coming?
SCOOP: Meta plans to clamp down on skyrocketing AI costs inside the company by imposing limits on employees’ token usage, the company told staff in a memo on Tuesday, just weeks after it pushed them to adopt AI tools in their work.

Ask not what the AI model companies can do for you. Ask what you can do for the AI model companies.

Not just the models -- we need to own the underlying compute also.
If there was ever any doubt, we cannot afford to not have our own models that compete with the best - never too late!
