I recently had the pleasure of judging for the @The_UKLA children’s book awards. One of the shortlisted books that I LOVED was The Invisible by @TomPercivalsays. A strong message about the social inequality in the UK, this felt timely, important and moving #books #childrenbooks

This is an excellent contribution to research on the important place of phonics in the broader context of reading development. Research informed practice is essential for effective teaching of reading.

New @IOE_London @HHCP_UCL landmark study led by @Dominic_Wyse & @AliceJBradbury has described the way primary school pupils are taught to read in England as “failing children”, calling on government to drop its focus on phonics.
