Thanks to Farm Strategy and food companies they have engaged in research downstream from the breeding work, simplified ingredients for bread products are well within sight. Additive replacement with natural flour from Ox varieties takes time to optimize and then implement.
Andrew Hoelscher, founder and president of Farm Strategy, gives meeting attendees an update on the three OX varieties to come out of the OSU wheat breeding program - Breadbox, Firebox and Paradox.

And if the mentioned varieties in this post do not succeed, try the wsm1 variety, Breakthrough, a product of K-State, Colorado State, and #okstate #wheat breeding programs.
Genetic resistance is an important component of a good integrated pest management strategy for wheat streak mosaic complex control. Learn more here: eupdate.agronomy.ksu.edu/art…

Grad student Ashton Boehm raises a torch of OK21PS821 spikes - a late, tall HRW beardless wheat for grain/graze-out/hay/ensilage acres and alternative to triticale. Incredible July standability and grain quality, derived from Big Country and Deliver. On to @OSU_OKFoundSeed

Experimentally we call this one P57. The later one is P92. Both have outstanding bread baking quality and will be targeted for more southerly and more northerly environments, respectively. Both pack a healthy punch of life into every slice.
Moved on to an @osuwit exp variety. An (HPW) yes that is Hard Purple Wheat. This is the early maturing one. I have a bin full and waiting on my trailer to return. Hope to get this one knocked out before dark.

How fitting. Big Country wheat can play a mean card game with Mother Nature.
Able to cut this afternoon in Perkins with Massey, moisture is higher than I like, but can put in bin with some air. Looking at latest forecast decided better get it in the bin. Not what I want to do but playing the cards that are dealt. @okgenetics Big Country #Wheatharvest2025

Drought is the proverbial red-haired step-child of hazards...severe weather gets all the pub. As a no-haired step-child, I'm still envious of course, but drought is still chugging away up in far NW OK! Rains falling after 7am on Tuesday's go on next week's map. #okwx #okmesonet

1 of 3: Time to tip my hat to these competitor #wheat varieties. Not intended as recommendations - just honest opinions after extended scrutiny. KS Providence Providentially fits Oklahoma AP Roadrunner Highly legit for dual-purpose, with canopy hygiene & Hessian fly resistance

Perkins, OK, low pH site (4.7). Nursery on right contains HWW & SRW ARS uniform nurseries in single 10’ rows. Check cv Doublestop CL every 4th row (bronze chaff). If green, crabgrass consumed the susceptible wheat. SRW nurseries have exhibited stronger tolerance for abt 40 yr.

Thank you @OSU_smallgrains for hosting! We look forward to more fruitful collaboration and bilateral germplasm exchange with the Centre for Agricultural Research, Martonvásár.
Today we had the pleasure of hosting and explaining all about the Oklahoma wheat production to a group of farmers from Hungary. Great discussion. Our dual-purpose wheat system always amazes people!  @OSU_NPK @JaysonLusk @okstate_ag @tklynch94 @IsraelCyrineu

OK20708 is first in line of a deep pipeline of talent. We went far beyond Pennsylvania and all the way to Romania to find something to team up with Smith’s Gold. Will it take down Showdown? Stay tuned.
Our 1st breeder increase of OK20708 looks fantastic. @osuwit OSU wrestling found their replacement for John Smith, will this be Smiths Gold replacement?

Leaf rust is well on the move in the central #wheat belt of Oklahoma. Early according to the calendar; right on time according to the crop’s development. Know your varieties’ expected reactions & that stripe rust resistance does not necessarily translate to leaf rust resistance.

Have not observed this intensity of stripe rust at the North Central Research Station at Lahoma, OK since 2015. And the Lahoma site is a dry environment in 2024.
