Het is te hopen dat de social media-bedrijven simpelweg weigeren de ban (en de ID-checks) te implementeren. Die hele maatregel is arbitrair, met uitzonderingen voor BlueSky. Het is daarnaast volkomen ongeloofwaardig dat een partij die toestond dat duizenden kinderen werden verkracht om maar niet 'racistisch' te lijken, nu ineens zich zorgen zou maken om de veiligheid van kinderen online. Verder is een volledige ban als het schieten op een mug met een kanon. Er is al software om ouders de controle te geven over wat hun kinderen kunnen doen op een smartphone. Er is daarnaast de optie om je kind gewoon geen smartphone te geven - of het gebruik ervan te monitoren. 't Gaat hier puur om controle. Het mooie is dat die controle momenteel bij de techbedrijven ligt. Als zij weigeren mee te werken, dan kan Starmer hoog en laag springen en op zijn kop gaan staan, maar dan gebeurt het gewoon niet. En gezien alle woede van de afgelopen tijd, zou het goed zijn als deze bedrijven goed gaan nadenken aan welke kant ze willen staan: die van een zwaar onder vuur liggende prutser met het charisma van een zak aardappelen - of die van het volk.
