Happy to share our new paper in @NatureHumBehav nature.com/articles/s41562-0… Using 500k behavioral trials, we show that #serialdependence deviates from #Bayesian/optimal predictions, pointing to a new narrative about how recent experience shapes perception. @AOzkirli @ralfer

This article by @AOzkirli @ralfer and @David__Pascucci shows that, rather than improving performance, serial dependence makes perceptual decisions more uncertain. @EPFL @Brainmind_EPFL @unil @CHUVLausanne @_TheSense_ nature.com/articles/s41562-0…

New preprint! Serial dependence is assumed to be attractive, but some studies show repulsion. We replicated a surprising repulsive serial bias that switches to an attractive one when people get distracted during the memory maintenance. osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/sk…

A crime in the making
"We found that the reported use of open science practices in leading [criminology and criminal justice] journals is low, especially for pre-registration and open code, and that their reported use does not seem to be increasing over time." link.springer.com/article/10…

It's an interesting perspective, quite in contrast with 'everyone has ideas' view that I also have heard a lot.
Replying to @BevilConway
I’m not super anxious abt this. Instead, distinguish yourself from the field 14. Also, it’s not about numbers of papers. A statement that says “I’ve published 25 papers” has wasted a sentence. People who have published just a handful of papers get great jobs bc they have ideas!

New preprint w/ @fridaprintzlau & @KeisukeFukuda4 ! We show that attentional priority in visual working memory modulates retroactive biases in memory, *but NOT* proactive biases in perception osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/2f… via @OSFramework

Are you looking for a precise monitor for vision science, eye-tracking, or EEG? In a new preprint, we tested an interesting new display option with excellent timing performance: "High-speed" organic light-emitting diode (OLED) monitors. A summary:🧵[1/n]

All kinds of exciting plans are afoot here @JohnsHopkins, and this is part of it! Three positions in Psychological & Brain Sciences — one each in cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, & behavioral neuroscience. These are very broad searches (in both rank and area). Apply!
🚨 Johns Hopkins psych & brain sci is hiring! 🚨 TWO open-rank faculty positions: one in cognition, broadly construed, the other in cognitive neuroscience We're excited about lots of research areas & approaches, including development & animal cognition! apply.interfolio.com/155721

Deep in thought while on your way to work? Better watch out, could be a recipe for disaster! Yet, people are able to daydream and hold images in mind effortlessly, with eyes open. But when you also need to attend your surroundings, it gets tricky… Why? 🚨TWEEPRINT ALERT! 🚨1/n

Some good tips. I hope one day eye-tracking in fMRI will become less finicky.
Getting high-quality #EyeTracking can be hard, especially when combined with other techniques like MEG or fMRI. Therefore, I started collecting a few tips for improving data quality that you won't find in a manual. If you know more, please reach out! matthiasnau.com/eye_tracking…

a thread on a poster by @AOzkirli where we see that there is no advantage from serial dependence in perception
This week during the annual meeting of European Conference on Visual Perception, I had the opportunity to share the results of our meta-analysis with @David__Pascucci and @ralfer and my, perhaps, uncommon view on serial dependence literature in visual perception. 1/6

Another study highlighting that visual findings from mice don't generalize to primates. cell.com/cell-reports/fullte… 2 thoughts: 1) It's fascinating that mice have no orientation columns - architectural constraints? 2) It's crazy nobody has directly shown orientation columns in humans

TUS holds great potential for neuroscience and clinical applications, but its success requires careful control for peripheral confounds. Let’s ensure noise doesn’t derail this powerful technology! Check out our eLife paper: doi.org/10.7554/eLife.88762.… Thread below 👇
