The angle doesn't show if he was offside or not. If he was then 100% agree that offside was the right decision, there is no way that was a deliberate play of the ball by defender, he is putting a foot out to block a pass. Great work from the officials.
🚨 Deliberate Play Klaxon 🚨 And it's an absolute cracker! If the opposition player had no control over this touch on the ball, then offside is the correct outcome.

Something we in fact talked about in tonight’s podcast recording after the issue was raised by one of our listeners
One bad call doesn’t define the entire match. Regain your concentration and approach the next decision with confidence. The Third Team provides resilience training to help referees stay focused after setbacks and make the best decisions for the remainder of the game.

After that failure to send off that Everton player in the Merseyside derby last night. Once again the finger of blame is rightly pointing at VAR Tierney who badly let down his colleague. What is the point of VAR if they are unable to judge a Serious Foul. Play offence.

We ruined football to bring in a ‘100% accuracy machine’, and we still have huge mistakes. Well done guys, good process!

Difficult to understand how Tarkowski’s challenge wasn’t a straight red and failing that why the referee wasn’t asked to go to the screen.
It's understood that PGMOL acknowledges James Tarkowski should have been sent off for that challenge on Alexis Mac Allister. Tarkowski played the ball initially but there is acceptance at PGMOL that the follow-through met the threshold for serious foul play. Sam Barrott, a good, promising young ref overseeing his first Merseyside Derby, felt the challenge was reckless in real time. VAR Paul Tierney checked Barrott's on-field decision of a yellow, deeming the ref's call was not a clear and obvious error. It's understood that PGMOL’s view is that a review should have been recommended and the original decision overturned. #LFC #EFC #LIVEVE
