Slowly unfollowing people here that have a b s k y account. It's so much better when the first replies and the suggested posts are not from people who decided to pay for the platform. I hope twitter dies because of the mistakes it made.

Visiting people in a new development in small town Ontario. It has 2br apts renting under $2,000/month across the street from detached homes selling for $850,000 ($5,000/month in mortgage payments alone). Guess which has a banner with the label “luxury”? Yeah, the apartments.

I am very much in favor of policies that may shift people on the margin over the edge into the having kids camp, and I am extremely opposed to policies that would force people who don't want to be parents into being them.

If a city’s planning rules are holding back a “development bonanza”, they should take seriously what this means: there is a large amount of unmet demand to live there.
This is an important rebuttal to the anti-planning City of Yes. commonedge.org/jane-jacobs-w…

Housing policy is a civil rights issue and literally blows-up anything else you do if you make it impossible to live there

“It’s a choice that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the United States have made for decades: Move from a less welcoming part of the country to one with more protections and a bigger community. The price of tolerance was higher rent.”

Want to build a 600 square foot starter home? No. Want to rent out your spare bedroom to a college kid? No. Want to build a small home in the backyard for your elderly mother-in-law? No. Want to build a four car garage? Yeah, that you can probably do. LOL 9/

La crise du logement est un problème de l’offre et de la demande. Si M. Legault blâme 100% la demande, c’est peut-être pour éviter sa part de responsabilité sur l’offre. #Québec #polqc

Since 1941, apartment buildings taller than 3 storeys needed to have 2 exits. This rule has made Canada a global outlier. Many countries allow for 1 exit in buildings of that size. It respects fire safety and cheaper to build = cheaper rent. tgam.ca/3Ki6iYx

Some of the best automation you can do in a SOC is simply presenting all the relevant information from various portals or feeds to your analysts in one place to action. Automation doesn't need to be complex to be effective and reducing mean time to respond is always valuable.

We tax alcohol because we want people drinking less. We tax tobacco because we want people smoking less. We tax carbon because we want people emitting less carbon. What do you think happens when we tax home-building?

An interesting response we've been getting: “This video is cruel. I can’t leave the city. My job, friends, and family are here!” Yes. That's why we shouldn't block housing in cities and price people out.

And how have the richest millennials got so rich? Mainly this: enormous wealth transfers from their parents, typically to help with buying their first home. In the UK, among those who get parental help, the top 10% got *£170,000* towards their house (the average Millennial got zero).

Imagine if Canada adopted this mindset during WWI or WWII. The idea that we shouldn’t help because the problem is big and mostly somebody else’s fault is profoundly uncanadian. Global problems require collective action and Canada has a responsibility to be part of the solution.

"If greenhouse gases are a problem, they’re a global problem. Canada can do nothing by itself to solve it. If the Canadian economy were to disappear tomorrow, the increase in emissions from China, which is building two new coal-fired power plants per week, would more than makeup for the elimination of Canadian emissions within months." thehub.ca/2024-03-26/steve-a…
