What's your favourite medical term that is commonly mispronounced? Mine is definitely "aspirational pneumonia", like it has grand plans to become bilateral consolidation from its meager beginnings of a small patch of opacification in the right base.

Slug and Lettuce obviously.
Rumour has it Liz Truss is in talks to join Reform. If she opened a pub with Nigel Farage, what should they call it?

A quick #VEXUS thread 🧵- 3 reasons why the portal vein is the most useful single venous doppler waveform 🥇 (if you're only going to do ONE site to look for venous congestion, this is probably the most useful one!)

🎬 2nd chapter ...🧵This a thread about 1.3% sodium bicarbonate🧂 (aka isotonic bicarb drip) in critical care. ☝🏻 If you missed the first part about 8.4% bicarb, I would strongly recommend you to read it before moving on 🏃🏻. x.com/jackdeliuc/status/1888…
...🧵This is a thread about 8.4% sodium bicarbonate (aka bicarb amp) in critical care. This the first part in a series of three about sodium bicarbonate 🧂in critical care: 🧐I will get in deep to complexities, benefits, risks and clinical implications of this (overused) drug.

Excellent thread which makes me reflect on the few cases I have managed in the past
(1/x) Here's a potentially fatal flaw in how thyroid storm is taught in medical school & residency —and why sticking to the textbook can be deadly for your sickest thyroid storm patients. ⚡️⚡️⚡️ I've seen this happen several times. A 🧵 #FOAMed #MedTwitter #endocrine #FOAMcc

If you’re getting worked up about the change in inheritance tax for farmers have a listen to this and stop being manipulated into believing this is something it isn’t. Go on I dare you. Or just keep furiously believing Farage, Clarkson, the Tory party and Musk (who hasn’t got a clue about what is actually happening and believes he doesn’t need to do so to compare Stalin to Starmer) meaningless drivel
How many farmers will actually be affected by the changes to inheritance tax? @DanNeidle does the math...

I’ve been looking for a way to say this neatly for about 20 years
All over the rich world, people’s lives are getting worse. It’s harder to afford the basics, keep a roof over your head, and access care when you’re sick. People will keep voting for whoever they think will bring back prosperity. 1/

"Hi yeah, is that the ICU reg? Great. Look, I've got this guy down in resus with a likely MI and he's pretty sick. He's 187, but he's a good 187. He has someone do his own shopping, but that's actually not new, and I'm reliably told he can still do 4 uninterrupted yoga pushups"

ICU Stories: While walking around the ICU at the beginning of your night shift, you notice that the respiratory therapist increased the FiO2 from 90 to 100% in a mechanically ventilated patient. Bedside monitor shows O2 sat 90%. You decide to read a bit more about the patient:

Slightly confused by something, are we saying all white people are not bad based on actions of a few, but all brown people are bad based on the actions of a few?
