Tell us you know practically nothing about how your own government works without telling us you havenโ€™t a clue.

Paying taxes hits different when you see just how many places it gets blown for nothing. $100 million here, $500 million there, $5 billion over there, $300 million there. People work their entire lives to pay $500k in taxes, and itโ€™s a rounding error on one wasteful program.

It still blows my mind that a sitting partner at a storied venture firm can just be openly sexist and racist on this app with zero career implications

Why would an arsonist stick around to watch a fire they just lit? Especially knowing they are being filmed. And I donโ€™t see anyone exactly trying to hide their identity. This seems stupid, but perfect for this channel
People are lighting fires in otherwise non-burning urban areas of LA. Saw this happen first hand at 302 Pico in Santa Monica. Called it in & fire dept & police responded. Stay safe and call in any activity ASAP. We donโ€™t need more flames out here.

Wait until Marc learns they arenโ€™t all going to be at the White House
I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dinedย alone.

Itโ€™s also obviously strange / sad / weird that Marc equates net worth with intelligence and talent

As a Brit, I've been watching the American election results with sorrow for my American friends. Some are comparing it to the Brexit vote here, imagining if we'd voted for Brexit twice. But here's the thing... in a sense, we did. And here are some lessons from it. ๐Ÿงต

[NEWS] Fossil fuel demand is forecasted to plummet: Thatโ€™s according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), which expects global oil demand to fall drastically by the end of the decade. Part of the reason? Chinaโ€™s EV boom. In an interview with Bloomberg, IEA executive director Fatih Birol says that China used to make up about 60% of global oil demand growth. But today, itโ€™s a completely different story โ€” Chinaโ€™s EV push and economic struggles mean itโ€™s consuming about 500,000 fewer barrels per day YoY. Meanwhile, global reserves are nearing record levels. With less demand and more supply, fossil fuels could get a lot cheaper in the next few yearsโ€ฆ maybe. The question is โ€” if gas prices drop faster than EV prices, will buyers stick with their combustion engines longer? How facts have to punch through a wall of ๐Ÿ’ฉ on this site because of its owner: case study
[Long post, please read] @elonmusk weirdly took the time to Google the middle name of @JocelynBenson, but here are some things he somehow didn't bother to try to learn. He could have easily found a lot of facts here -- michigan.gov/sos/elections/eโ€ฆ: 1. No, MI does not have more active reg'd voters than people. It has a very high reg rate, but it's not over 100%. 7.9M voting age population. 7.2M active reg'd voters. There are hundreds of thousands of unregistered eligible citizens in MI. 2. Inactive records are NOT reg'd voters. 1.2M MI records are flagged for removal. They are voters marked for cancellation, and hardly any of them vote, only when someone has been improperly marked for cancellation. EVERY SINGLE VOTER in MI still needs to show voter ID when they vote. 3. Inactive records are ALWAYS removed AFTER an election, as the failure to vote in the second straight fed'l election is the legal trigger for removal. Every state does this (except for 6 states exempted from the NVRA). It's fed'l law. 4. Large numbers of inactive records is a sign of STRONG list maintenance practices. MI has 1.2M inactive records. Most records cannot be removed before first being inactive for at least two federal election cycles. It's fed'l law. 5. Musk's new home state of TX has well over 2 million inactive records on their lists (they call it a "suspense list"), close to double the number in MI. TX's list maintenance isn't as strong as MI, per capita, but it's quite robust. These inactive records will remain on that list until AFTER the election in TX, and in MI, and in the rest of the states, with those who qualify then removed. It's fed'l law. Perhaps it's not surprising Musk is completely lost when it comes to how elections work and what's legally required, and he appears to have his own election law problems today that he may be trying to distract from (see 52 USC 10307(c) and the crime of offering anything of value (like a chance to win $1M) in exchange voting or registering. Election off'ls and experts, incl many Republicans, have tried for months to engage him, to get him to look at the disinformation he's spreading with critical thinking, to no avail. And as we stand here today, there is nobody doing more to delegitimize US elections, doing the work of our adversaries in Russia, China, and Iran, than the owner of this platform. And now, he's painting a target on specific election officials, who are busy trying to do their jobs, on the eve of the election.
