What’s happening in the Valencia region is truly heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the floods. In light of the situation, the difficult decision has been made to cancel @valenciarb. Valencia, stay strong! 💔 #ror #rubyonrails #ruby

Alright, let me share the full story of how my 14-year-old Instagram account, "javier," was stolen and ended up in the hands of the CEO of a hip-hop record label—and why I believe it was an inside job.

Test fatigue? Testing out of habit, but don't feel confident in what you actually test? LLMs write tests and are unsure if it covers what you actually need? @lucianghinda opened signups for his 3h workshop held Nov 1st — limited seats, last with discount goodenoughtesting.com/

I got the test batches in vinyl, and they're not great 🥺. The colours are more saturated, and the border is black in this case, not sure why, so the contour is thicker in some parts. I'm ordering a new test batch from a different maker, and I learnt about "removable vinyl"

I got very useful feedback about the Mochi stickers at @friendlyrb and @railsworld, so I ordered new batches following that feedback: - smaller size - printed in vinyl so they're dishwasher-proof and suitable for outdoors I learnt that people have high standards for stickers 😆

It turns out removable vinyl makes the stickers easily removable without leaving any traces, which is great for temporary stuff or for kiddos that might stick them in some non-desirable places 😆. I'm going to order the next batch on this, as I'm very interested on this feature

#RubyFriends!! Working on some new game show questions. Send me your weird/unexpected Ruby code snippets via DM. The shorter the better and bonus points if you pulled it from actual production code! Retweets appreciated

A message from the @dhh keynote at #RailsWorld resonated: “it’s more fun to be competent.” This translates perfectly to working with relational databases. Hear me out. Nearly 100% of Rails apps use relational DBs. But is the use of this key part of the stack used competently? Expertly? We generally have limited educational materials in this area, and real world experience can be hard to come by, or be “too late” to solve real issues. I was a barely-competent user myself, and certainly not an “expert.” I didn’t know how to read a query plan in depth, design valuable indexes, or leverage efficient schema design patterns. I wanted to change that. I wanted to become not only competent, but become an expert. I want this for other Rails developers too. I know many want to learn to become expert designers, acquire performance engineering skills, and operate as skilled backend engineers. They want to deliver fast and reliable experiences for their application users. All applications benefit from efficient database design, and in particular data-intensive applications with growing concurrency. That describes most all Rails apps that achieve some success! From B2C to B2B. So what’s the message? If you’re barely competent as a database user, consider going on a learning journey towards competency. I can vouch for the keynote message: It’s more fun to be a competent database user. andyatkinson.com/pgrailsbook
