A Banaras connect in Bratislava! At the Presidential Palace in Bratislava yesterday, President Pellegrini and I viewed a fascinating exhibition centred on Varanasi, including works by Slovak artists who had recently visited the city. Art and culture truly have a unique ability to bring people closer. My compliments to all those whose works featured in this exhibition. @PellegriniP_

Most children spend their childhood building sandcastles by the sea. Thaaragai Aarathana chose to protect the sea itself. Introduced to the ocean before she could even walk, the Chennai girl was swimming by the age of two and diving by five. But every dive showed her a painful reality. Plastic bottles, wrappers, fishing nets, and marine life are struggling to survive. Instead of looking away, she got to work. From joining beach clean-ups as a child to helping remove nearly 3,000 kg of plastic waste from the ocean, Thaaragai has turned her love for the sea into a mission. She has even swum across the Palk Strait to raise awareness about marine pollution. In 2025, she took that message underwater, performing Bharatanatyam nearly 20 feet below the surface to spotlight the growing threat of ocean plastic. Today, alongside her father, she continues to inspire people to protect the waters that sustain life. #OceanConservation #PlasticPollution #OceanCleanup [Thaaragai Aarathana, Chennai, Ocean Conservation, Plastic Pollution]

๐Ÿš€ Mars in 30 Days? The Engine That Could Change Space Travel Scientists at Rosatom are testing a magnetoplasma engine that turns hydrogen into plasma and pushes it with magnetic force. Early laboratory work at Troitsk Institute of Innovation and Fusion Research showed particle speeds close to 100 km per second. If the technology works in the future, spacecraft may travel to Mars in about 30โ€“60 days. But for now, it is only a ground prototype, and a flight version may appear in the 2030s. Is faster interplanetary travel finally coming?

In 2015, an 11,000-volt electrocution changed Brijesh Kumarโ€™s life forever. The accident took both his hands. Soon after, he lost his mother, a loss he says still hurts the most. For years, he battled pain, surgeries, and uncertainty. Job applications were rejected. People questioned how he would work, live, or take care of himself. But Brijesh refused to let tragedy define him. Today, the young man from Bihar's Gaya writes with his feet, operates a phone with his feet and mouth, solves complex math problems, and teaches underprivileged children for free every single day. Using a marker strapped to his amputated arm, he stands before a whiteboard and helps children dream bigger than their circumstances. While many see disability, his students see a teacher. "I could not save my mother," he says. But every day, he is helping hundreds of children build a future she would have been proud of. #Gaya #Teacher #Education #Inspiration

A glimpse of the brain-eye connection: Hereโ€™s how the optic nerves and neural pathways work together to create 3D vision. While we often think of vision as a simple act of looking, it is actually an intricate feat of biological engineering. When light hits the retina, it is converted into electrical impulses that travel along the optic nerves to the optic chiasm. This critical intersection allows signals from both eyes to partially cross, ensuring that information is distributed across both hemispheres. This complex wiring is exactly what grants us depth perception and a unified field of view, transforming two separate images into a single cohesive experience. The true magic of sight happens deep within the brain's visual processing centers, where raw signals are reconstructed into the shapes and colors of our world. This perspective reminds us that we do not merely see with our eyesโ€”we see with our brains. By interpreting neural data, the brain actively constructs our perception of reality, proving that vision is a sophisticated neurological achievement rather than a passive camera-like observation. source: American Academy of Ophthalmology. JRD Tata loses a pen! JRD Tata, then Chairman of the Tata group, and senior Tata Directors used to meet for lunch at Bombay House (the Tata Group's headquarters) every day. One day, JRD came to lunch, sad that he had lost his favourite pen. He used to always carry a Parker pen set - a fountain pen and a ball pen. "Look", he said sadly, "I have lost the ball pen. I don't know where it has gone. I have looked all over...but it's gone." One of the Directors in the lunch room that day was Dr. Jamshed (JJ) Irani of Tata Steel. He made note of JRD Tata's loss. A few weeks later, when he was visiting London, he went to a small shop near Selfridges specialising in pens, and found a ball pen identical to the one JRD had lost. He bought it immediately. The next time he met JRD Tata, he presented that pen to him. JRD was delighted. "Yes, Jamshed, it is exactly like the one I lost." For the first one or two minutes, he used it and tried it out. Then, Dr. Irani saw JRD's expression change slowly. After a couple of minutes, he gave the ball pen back to Dr. Irani, and said - "Thank you for the thought. This is exactly what I wanted, but I cannot accept it." "Why?" asked Dr. Irani, "I thought you were looking for this." JRD answered - "Yes, Jamshed. But it is a principle of mine not to accept any gifts from any of my colleagues at work. If I did, then I know my colleagues would try to outdo each other and give me exorbitant gifts." Dr. Irani tried to persuade him. "But Sir, nobody would know that I have given you this pen. You can say that you found it in your room. I am not going to go around saying that I have given JRD an identical pen." JRD responded - "Jamshed, I know you will not do any such thing. But I would know. I would know that I accepted this gift against my principles. I am sorry, but I cannot accept it." Each of us decides the principles by which we lead our lives. The principles that we will stand by, even if no one is looking or speaking about them. The principles that define who we really are. This story of JRD Tata's lost ball pen can help us reflect on what our own life's principles are. #Tata #ethics
