Super excited to share my 1st first-author publication out today in @ScienceMagazine, in which we resurrect billion-year-old enzymes to study the evolution of Rubisco. Let me tell you how a 100 amino acid protein facilitated the rise of oxygenic life. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

Today marks a pivotal moment for Isomorphic Labs. We have secured $2.1 Billion in our second external funding round, led by Thrive Capital. They are joined at the table by Alphabet, GV and new investors MGX, Temasek, CapitalG and the UK Sovereign AI Fund. This milestone accelerates our ability to build the pioneering novel AI models that power our AI drug design engine (IsoDDE) and deploy them at scale: delivering scientific breakthroughs with a precision previously thought impossible, accelerating and expanding our pipeline of therapeutic programs toward the clinic. All with the ultimate goal of delivering life-changing new medicines to patients. Moving forward, we will scale our drug candidate pipelines across multiple therapeutic areas, expand our global footprint, and push the boundaries of frontier AI research to power our drug design engine. Deeply grateful to everyone sharing our vision to solve all disease with AI. Let’s build the future of medicine. Read the full announcement here: bit.ly/4v2OI03

Check out Beauβ€˜s sick PhD work!! Finally out for the world to read
Glad to see my main PhD project finally out @NatureMicrobiol nature.com/articles/s41564-0… We show for the first time that a synthetic and engineered pathway can indeed exceed nature at one-carbon fixation.

Two exciting papers about the the protection of nitrogenases from O2 by the ferredoxin Shethna protein II from the Tezcan doi.org/10.1038/s41586-024-0… and Einsle doi.org/10.1038/s41586-024-0… labs were published today by @Nature. Surprisingly both papers reveal superstructures of filaments.

Happy to share our story on evolution of protein quaternary structure! We discover an astounding variation in assembly across evolutionary timescales contrasted by strong functional conservation suggesting a significant role of non-adaptive processes nature.com/articles/s41467-0… πŸ‘‡πŸ§΅

Lets talk about #acetyl-CoA! As central molecule in C1 metabolism, the efficiency of its assimilation determines yields. Read below about our Lcm as novel activity in the shortest O2 tolerant route to make pyruvate from acetyl-CoA while fixing #CO2! nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

New in @EMBOjournal, we studied the evolution of essentiality in Form I Rubisco. While @KaHochberg nicely summarizes the evolutionary implications of our work, let me summarize some of the cool biochemistry surrounding it. doi.org/10.1038/s44318-024-0… 🧡
New paper from us and @erblabs by @schulluc : embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…. It's about the evolution of essentiality. This question has fascinated me for a long time: How does a component that was previously unnecessary for some function become essential for it?

Focusing on substitutions that occurred in such regions, we identified historical changes that drastically reduced Rubisco’s activity but whose negative effect is buffered by the presence of the SSU.
