When we elect @builtjustice as mayor the Canucks will finally win. I dont make the rules.
An observation: Seattle elected a democratic socialist mayor, and immediately won the Super Bowl. New York City elected a democratic socialist mayor, and immediately won the #NBAFinals.

NGL it does seem a little small
Is the screen big enough? A look inside the PNE Amphitheatre, epicentre of Vancouver's FIFA Fan Festival, from the POV of the free standing/sitting room only section. #WeAre26 #vanpoli #bcpoli

"Mexican barrio"? Hadn't heard of it until asked. I’m for highlighting local businesses & cultures. But, the issue isn’t highlighting. It’s hiding homelessness through street sweeps so tourists feel more comfortable. Housing and supports, not displacement, are the solution.

To ABC, saving lives is ideology
Yesterday, ABC voted to keep Vancouver moving. While the non-ABC parties on Council wanted to lower speed limits on major arterial roads to 30 km/h and 40 km/h, ABC chose to stand with commuters and residents. Speed limits must be driven by common sense, not ideology. Let's keep Vancouver moving forward.

ABC is now lying about the substance of the motion that was on the table before modifying it to make it look like they supported the motion while removing the main thing that would actually make our streets safer for everyone. #vanpoli

NEW from City Hall: In the GVRD, 100 people die every year from fatal car accidents. Today staff brought a report to bring a moderate handful of tweaks to reduce injuries and save lives in the city. ABC amended it to make the streets less safe.

Interesting. The VPD spokesperson says they'll be on alert for soccer hooliganism during the World Cup, but it's the Granville Entertainment District so they deal with that kind of behaviour all the time. Yet when it comes to a supervised consumption site that saves lives and connects people to healthcare, treatment, and recovery, suddenly it's treated as unacceptable. Public intoxication, fights, and disorder connected to nightlife are often seen as part of doing business. But a health service that prevents overdose deaths? That's where some people draw the line. It's a strange double standard.

A win! Council unanimously supports cooling rights for renters in Vancouver by ensuring landlords can’t ban cooling devices. Thank you to @Lucyincanada & @seanorr for your leadership on this and for recognizing @FirstUnitedDTES for our work. This will save lives.

Stewart Prest, a lecturer in political science at the University of British Columbia, called the code of conduct process flawed. “I think you can’t help but come away with a sense of conflict, and conflict of interest of another sort when you see the mayor and his majority on council voting to put aside recommendations that referred to the problems with the mayor’s own behavior and choices,” he said.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim will not be sanctioned for breaching the municipal code of conduct by misusing his office to harass and personally attack a newly elected opposition councillor last year. ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article…

Just like when they decided a letter of reprimand for discriminating against me (as a new mother) was too much. If they aren't willing to make even symbolic gestures to acknowledge wrong-doing, they are clearly endorsing this behaviour.
NOW: ABC Councillors have moved a motion to let Ken Sim completely off the hook for violating the Code of Conduct and harrassing Cllr @SeanOrr Follow the debate live: youtube.com/watch?v=Ay9WxnBV…

I am bringing a motion to close this loophole in the TRPP on Wednesday
Displacing people from their homes has become way too normalized in Vancouver. When @COPEVancouver wins in Oct, we will stop making renters’ lives hell with a funded Renters Office & anti-displacement development policies. We can do growth without destroying lives.
