"Mexican barrio"? Hadn't heard of it until asked. I’m for highlighting local businesses & cultures. But, the issue isn’t highlighting. It’s hiding homelessness through street sweeps so tourists feel more comfortable. Housing and supports, not displacement, are the solution.

ABC is now lying about the substance of the motion that was on the table before modifying it to make it look like they supported the motion while removing the main thing that would actually make our streets safer for everyone. #vanpoli

NEW from City Hall: In the GVRD, 100 people die every year from fatal car accidents. Today staff brought a report to bring a moderate handful of tweaks to reduce injuries and save lives in the city. ABC amended it to make the streets less safe.

Interesting. The VPD spokesperson says they'll be on alert for soccer hooliganism during the World Cup, but it's the Granville Entertainment District so they deal with that kind of behaviour all the time. Yet when it comes to a supervised consumption site that saves lives and connects people to healthcare, treatment, and recovery, suddenly it's treated as unacceptable. Public intoxication, fights, and disorder connected to nightlife are often seen as part of doing business. But a health service that prevents overdose deaths? That's where some people draw the line. It's a strange double standard.

Just like when they decided a letter of reprimand for discriminating against me (as a new mother) was too much. If they aren't willing to make even symbolic gestures to acknowledge wrong-doing, they are clearly endorsing this behaviour.

ABC just voted to ignore the Integrity Commissioner and let Mayor Ken Sim completely off the hook for Misuse of Office & Harassing Conduct against Cllr @SeanOrr. On October 17th, we're going to elect @builtjustice and get to work restoring integrity at City Hall.

The report recommends that Ken Sim write a letter of apology to @SeanOrr "Other possible sanctions...include that he attend specific training or counselling, suspension or removal from some or all committees and bodies to which he is appointed by council and/or public censure."
