CM Vijay has stated in the NITI Aayog meeting that Tamil Nadu wants SSA (Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan) funds worth several thousand crores (offered for upgrading Government schools) without implementing the NEP (National Education Policy). It is a sorry state of affairs that a State Government is playing with the lives of poor students for its trivial politics. The very SSA scheme itself comes out of the National Education Policy (NEP). Then where is the question of receiving funds without accepting the NEP? Opposition to the third-language policy arose from opposing Hindi imposition. Yes, it was necessary to oppose a third-language policy when Hindi was being imposed. Once, the Congress imposed it. We opposed it. What now?! The NEP provides a clear choice in selecting the third language. It can be Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, or any other language of choice. What useful purpose is served by opposing a three-language policy when there is no imposition of any language? Indeed, the only language compelled by the NEP is Tamil (mother tongue/regional language), not Hindi or Sanskrit. Reading the mother tongue/regional language is the right and duty of every student in Tamil Nadu. They are not only opposing the NEP. By opposing the NEP, they are also opposing Tamil education. Tamil education is our right.
