12,000 Google Scholar Citations => A Journey That Was Never Supposed to HappenπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š When I began this career 18 years ago, even my own mother, the woman who brought me into this world, told me it was time to slow down. "Travel. Play golf. Enjoy the rest of your life," she saidπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š I chose a different path! I still remember the quiet thrill of reaching 1,000 citations, a number that felt almost unreal at the time. Today, as that number crosses 12,000, I find myself overwhelmed not by the count itself, but by everything it represents: the late nights, the countless revisions, the rejections that stung, the acceptances that healed, and the beautiful minds I've had the privilege to work alongside. Every single citation is a conversation, someone, somewhere in the world, read our work and found it worthy of building upon. That thought alone humbles me beyond words. This milestone belongs not to me, but to all of you! To my co-authors and colleagues who trusted me and walked this road together. To my students, my greatest pride, who challenged me to grow even as I tried to guide them. To the journal editors and reviewers whose rigorous eyes sharpened every word we wrote. And to every scholar who cited our work, thank you for listening, for engaging, and for carrying these ideas forward. They say academia is a lonely journey. I disagree. It is the most connected journey I have ever known. The path of scholarship has no finish line, and at 12,000 citations, I am more certain than ever that the best chapters are still ahead. Publishing a research paper seems like conducting an orchestraπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š It takes the generous support of colleagues, the guidance of journal editors, the dedication of Ph.D. students, and then the countless stages: pilot testing, preliminary surveys, content validity checks, expert reviews from both academic and field professionals, the main survey… and on top of all that, the insightful comments from three anonymous reviewers who push you to make it betterπŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’› This journey was not easy. There were many struggles at the beginning. But after two years of persistence and the collective effort of every person involved, I am deeply grateful to share that our paper, "Resident Perceptions of Spaceport Destination Development," has been published in the @JSustTour JournalSustainableTourism, a leading journal in the field. No research is ever a solo performance. It is the harmony of many hands, many minds, and many hearts that brings a paper to life. To my wonderful co-authors, @SINHEEHAN, @YunkyoungJo, @hyodanChoi, @NamhoChung, and @ColinMichaelHall, the great editor @xavierfont, and to everyone who contributed along the amazing way (@SergioAlvarez @NatashaCruzMillheim @SungEunKang @ChanhoChung): thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. This one means a lot. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ #Spaceport #SustainableTourism #SpaceTourism #SpaceportDevelopment #ResearchJourney #Teamwork #Grateful #SunwayUniversity #SunwayBusinessSchool #DMSI #SunwayEducationGroup

Extremely thrilled to share that our paper "Orthostatic Intolerance in Spaceflight: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis" has just been published in Acta AstronauticaπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š This one is deeply personal to meπŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’› As a tourism and hospitality scholar, authoring a medical systematic review with my colleagues and doctoral students from the College of Medicine was both humbling and exhilarating. I spent countless late nights studying on my own, determined not to mislead my team, writing comments, learning, and pushing beyond my comfort zone. The journey was long and challenging, but the reward has been extraordinary. If there's one lesson this experience has driven home, it's this: interdisciplinary research doesn't just produce papers, it transforms the researcher. I gained more knowledge stepping outside my field than I ever could have staying within it. My heartfelt gratitude goes to my wonderful colleagues, brilliant doctoral students, and the journal editor for believing in this work (@YeAhKim @JunghyunKim @HwieunChoi @SoojongPak @ManSKim [κΉ€λ§Œμ„] @ZhengHong(George)Zhu). The path of scholarship truly has no finish line, and I wouldn't have it any other way. lnkd.in/gUqpKFnR #AirStas #SunwayUniversity #SunwayBusinessShool #DMSI

Some papers carry more than research, they carry a story of resilience, perseverance, and the human spirit πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š I am deeply honored to share that our paper on Ethnic food, Korean food with @JooheeAhn, @HuaiyuLi, and @HGTOlya has been accepted for publication in the @InternationalJournalHospitalityManagement @ManuelRivera, one of the most prestigious journals in the hospitality field worldwide πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’› This study, nearly two years in the making, was a journey I walked alongside my doctoral student, Joo Hee, and what a journey it has been. Joo Hee is a mother of two college-age sons. During the course of this research, she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery. Yet she never gave up, not on her health, not on her family, and not on our research. She fought through it all with a quiet strength that words can hardly capture!!!! Today, she stands cancer-free, with a publication in one of the world's top-tier SSCI journals and Q1, and a position in the United States. If this isn't what academia should be about, lifting each other up through the hardest of times, I don't know what is. Joo Hee! I am so proud of you!! Your courage has been an inspiration far beyond the pages of our paper!!! To everyone who supported, encouraged, and believed in us along the way, thank you. This achievement belongs to all of you as well!!!! #SunwayUniversity #SunwayBusinessSchool #sunwayeductiongroup #DMSI lnkd.in/g3sTtQYv

I said goodbye to my hero, my supporter, and my mentor. My father passed away peacefully at 88πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š Watching him struggle with his health recently was painful, but he fought bravely until the very end. Now, his suffering is overπŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’› Thank you so much, Dad, for teaching me how to live with dignity, humanity, and contribution to society. You will always be my role model. Honestly I think South Korea could be the loveliest and most civilized country in the world, right now. I was extremely impressed when visiting there. Extremely.
Replying to @Reuters
The narrative around South Korea is shifting from "demographic crisis" to a "historic comeback." πŸ“ˆ The fact that the world's lowest birthrate is finally rising, coupled with Samsung becoming the first Korean company to hit a $1 trillion market cap, proves that the nation's fundamental strength is stronger than ever. However, the real game-changer will be South Korea's transition into a global talent hub. By integrating proactive and diverse immigration policies with its world-class tech infrastructure, South Korea is positioning itself to overcome labor shortages and spark a new wave of innovation. 🌐 It’s not just about surviving; it’s about evolving into a "Great Nation" that leads the world in both economic power and cultural diversity. The synergy between traditional resilience and an open-door policy for global talent will make South Korea unstoppable by this summer peak. πŸ‡°πŸ‡·πŸš€βœ¨

True. But space is managed by the federal government (not state and local), and the federal government deeply cares about national security and hence buildout of AI, so the clamp-down will come a lot slower. The longer-term solution will be industry off-planet entirely.
Do not be fooled, they will go after space based data centers as well, it’s only a matter of time.

IMO, most of the skepticism about AI becoming smarter than humans in every way (within just a few years) is because people feel threatened by it (as they certainly should) and denying it feels better than facing it. The anger and rudeness is a big tell.
