Over a decade ago, @ProfCoe & other researchers at the Sutton Trust authored "What Makes Great Teaching?" Review of the underpinning research (2014). In this influential review, the authors identified several ‘poor proxies’ for learning; these are indicators that may lead observers to assume learning is taking place, but in actuality may not be related to learning. The idea of poor proxies can also be applied to feedback. Some well-intentioned feedback practices may look good to students, parents or observers, but they do little to actually improve learning. Lesson time is too precious to waste on practices that do not move learning forward! I explore this in the blog post below: evidencebased.education/reso…

I do not say this lightly, but I think there is evil intent behind the assisted suicide bill. I hope and pray that the heartless acts of its supporters will lead to its ultimate defeat.
This includes an examination of existing policies to tackle the attainment gap, more recent proposals to raise educational outcomes for all, and how other jurisdictions are dealing with the same issue.

I’ve had a full and fulfilling week, visiting schools and watching lessons in Northern Ireland. I’ve been listening to students, teachers, principals, teacher educators and officials as they’ve shared their thoughts on the curriculum. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome.
