Replying to @CarlowCollege
@CarlowCollege is being closed over two years, with all 87 staff being made redundant and all programmes wound down. Some of us will be made redundant immediately, some kept on a year by year basis. We still do not know who. Or what the workloads will be. This was not the plan.

A very sad case. Hopefully someone will come forward so Margaret Ellen ‘Peggy’ Murdoch who died last week at hospital aged 81 can have family attend at her funeral. She had most recently stayed at nursing homes in Hillsborough and previously lived in Lisburn and Antrim town 💔
A funeral director has issued an appeal to find the next of kin of a Co Down woman who died alone in hospital without any family. Margaret Ellen ‘Peggy’ Murdoch died last week, 9 April, at hospital aged 81. jrnl.ie/7013200

What a powerful message this diagram sends. £4 out of every £5 spend on healthcare in the last year of life is for acute hospital care. Community services remain underfunded. Hospices account for 4% of spending with hospice community palliative care being <2%.

Morning all. I’ve done lots of thinking this week & decided I don’t think I can carry on with my business anymore. It’s always been hard, but it’s so much harder to keep my head above water now which is not only bad for me mentally, it’s affecting my physical health too (1/4)

To the mothers walking beside us and the ones watching over us, your love remains the steady heartbeat of our lives. Today, like everyday, we hold you close, whether in a warm embrace or a quiet memory. We honour you and the countless ways you’ve shaped who we are. We thank you for every sacrifice and every smile; we love you deeply, and we carry your light with us always. #MothersDay

Conan O'Brien says he has "incredible empathy for people who have immigrated to another country" after traveling to Ireland and seeing his great-grandfather lived. "I went back to Ireland and I [saw] a great genealogist who said, 'I found where your great-grandfather’s home was.' The home is gone, but he found the little spot where he lived, near the Galbally Mountains. He said, 'I’ll go there and show it to you,' and I said, 'We’ll do it on camera.' "I was expecting to have these jokes loaded up; we had props and funny things we were going to do... But I got there, and I did not expect this because I'm not someone who wears my emotions on my sleeve, but I got emotional. It was very powerful. "This was a very small plot of land. He was a tenant farmer, so it wasn't his. He didn't have money, and he needed to move on because it wasn't working; probably not enough to eat, couldn't sustain. So, he left and went to America, and here I am a couple of generations later. "What's amazing to me is when you have that experience and you stand there, I have incredible empathy for people who have immigrated to another country. It takes an entire lifetime to go to a country where, often, people don't speak the language. They have to spend their entire lives just getting things started for the next generation; it's a whole lifetime that you're feeding into this process. "I was just thinking about this guy, whom I'll never meet, who had to do that. I think I was overcome by the fact that there's a lot of sadness in that story, and in a lot of these stories. People leave not because they think, 'Hey, I just want to go have fun in America.' They leave because they have to." (via Jimmy Kimmel Live)

Hi to everyone seeing this. This is Féile, she is 13 and had a life altering farming accident last July. She is very courageous and in great spirits. Her friends and family are raising money for her through 1. Golf Outing on 16th/17th/18th of April which is sold out( but I believe hole sponsorship and raffle prizes are still available) 2. A school jersey day, Friday March 20th, where kids wear their favourite jersey to school and donate 1 or 2 euro. They are really hoping for schools everywhere to participate in this. If you’d like to support this great cause particularly by getting your school to join the Jersey Day on March 20th. Follow the Link below or just go to gaacork.ie. gaacork.ie/stand4feile/

Finding neural correlates of grief doesn’t justify calling it pathology. Love, attachment, moral injury all have brain signatures-o/c neural correlates are common in all. Using neuroscience to police how long someone is allowed to mourn, IMO, is bad science & questionable ethics
