Safe blood supplies have been expanding worldwide, increasing steadily over the past decade.
More than 120 million blood donations were made in 2023, and over 85% of whole blood donations came from voluntary unpaid donors.
Yet, access to safe blood remains deeply unequal. Stronger investment in national blood systems is critical to ensure that everyone can access life-saving transfusions.
