A bold vision for the future of Blackpool’s famous heritage trams is taking shape ahead of the launch of summer tours featuring several vintage vehicles.
The ambitious plans include a permanent home for the historic fleet, as well as regular trips on the seafront by some of the heritage trams.

🚦 At Carnforth station, we’re replacing signals and the cantilever structure that holds them in place.
👀 This will replace filament lights with modern LEDs, providing better visibility for drivers.

@networkrail successfully moved the new M6 Clifton bridge into position this morning. The 4000 tonne composite bridge, complete with ballast and catenary masts was moved into position over the M6 using SPMTs (self propelled modular transporters).
✅Job done - for now…

Ahead of their return to service for special trips during the Lightpool festival, you may spot two of our heritage trams out and about on the network this week for pre service checks.🚃
They will then be moved to Starr Gate depot in preparation for service.
During these trial runs they are unable to carry passengers but details of how to book a place on one of the Lightpool specials will be announced in due course.
✅ We test the hydraulic 'buffers' at Glasgow Central with a locomotive to check they're ready for action.
