This is a telephone poll of 515 voters, 28th May - 12th June. So about two-thirds before third of that time is after the BBC Question Time of June 5th, which had wide reach. So there is a chance that it may not fully capture the full impact of that occasion.
🆕 @Moreincommon_ /@UCLPolicyLab poll for @thetimes finds @AndyBurnhamGM leading the race in the Makerfield by-election but over 1 in 10 still undecided about their vote and Restore Britain currently saving their deposit. Let us at least have a rapid global campaign to have Omar Artan referee at least one World Cup match in Canada or Mexico. It is well within FIFA's capabilities to facilitate, not impede, that.
A Somali referee who is due to officiate at the World Cup has been denied entry to the U.S. after “vetting concerns” emerged upon his arrival in Florida over the weekend. Omar Artan arrived at Miami International Airport on a flight from Istanbul on Saturday but was barred from entering the country following a “routine” inspection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed in a statement to The Athletic. Artan, the 2025 Confederation of African Football men’s referee of the year, is one of 52 referees handpicked by world governing body FIFA for the tournament. I spoke to @nicholaswatt on English identity, broadcast Sunday 130pm. - Those born in England, who sincerely identify as English, accepted as English by most. That doesn't take 5 generations! Sport reflects the common sense consensus but it isn't enough bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c362…

Why birthplace matters: the English consensus on an "inclusive nativism" for which is neither an entirely civic identity, nor one that more than a niche see as restricted to ancestry or ethnicity for 3-5 generations britishfuture.org/who-gets-t…

The idea English identity is confined to ethnicity & ancestry is more niche than abolishing monarchy/joining Euro But media elites skew & overcompensate to an imaginary caricature of public = weird assymetry: venerate niches on right as 'authentic' as if X reflects the country

My Eastern Eye column this week previews the biggest ever football World Cup & wonders if 104 matches might be too much of a good thing. And reveals why I have believed, for a decade, that 2026 would be England's year to win the World Cup easterneye.biz/fifa-world-cu…

Here's the end-of-season list for the highest average attendances in English league football. For the third year running, The Arsenal are the only club with two teams on the list, with Arsenal Women gaining the most places compared to last year, followed by Coventry and Everton.

Good Sunday Times effort by Lara Spirit at comparing some "imagined north" generic red wall narratives in media political discourse to Makerfield itself. A nudge that may improve coverage thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

What might be some of the main reasons why the May 2026 "Unite the Kingdom" rally was significantly smaller than the Sept 2025 march - perhaps approx half the size - when organisers had hoped expected it to be much larger, not smaller?

This FSU tweet misdescribes all core features of this judgment. - judgment makes clear it is not sbout Stock. - judgment shows why OfS/FSU argument about broad OfS powers was clearly not the intent of the act - FSU already intervened; its case rejected - wrong re consequences
This ruling has effectively hung Kathleen Stock out to dry and given the green light to trans activists to hound those they disagree with off campus. Far too many academics have been driven from their jobs, abandoned by colleagues, and subjected to vile abuse for holding and expressing lawful views. This judgment effectively renders the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act (Hefsa) toothless. Universities must do more than pay lip service to the free speech duties set out in the Act. The Free Speech Union sincerely hopes that the Office for Students appeals. If it does, we hope to intervene. Read more below 👇

FSU as a campaign group v approved of new regulator making an exemplary case of Uni of Sussex. But judgment shows OfS exceeded its regulatory powers, misdirected itself on law, failed to consider remedy of policy change to protect academic freedom, prejudged case to set example
