Bottom trawling is industrial fishing with a weighted net that is often wider than a football field. As it is dragged along the sea floor, the trawl captures, kills or maims everything in its path. Time to end it. @FishOceansCAN @Joanne_NL nytimes.com/2026/06/08/opini…

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via study that still underestimates climate cost. This isn’t about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice. #citymakingmath

I quite like an idea someone else had - move the entire Toronto island airport to Pearson, they have the infrastructure, space, and everything needed shuttle busses to get people from downtown there. Then turn the airport into an island parkland for everyone to use!
Approval of the Toronto Island airport will be the end of this government.

The Carney government just dropped a $3.2 billion food security strategy and it’s worth understanding what it actually does. Right now, only 11 cents of every dollar you spend on groceries reaches the farmer who grew it. Five companies control 80% of the grocery market. And Canada exports billions in agricultural products while turning around and importing processed versions of the same food from the US at a markup. This plan attacks that problem structurally. $1 billion goes toward food terminals and distribution hubs so independent grocers can buy directly from Canadian farmers, cutting out the middleman. The Competition Bureau gets a funding boost to go after the property control tricks big grocers use to block competitors from moving in nearby. And Farm Credit Canada gets $1 billion for domestic food processing so we stop exporting raw product and importing it back as something more expensive. The targets are concrete: expand the Ontario Food Terminal by end of year, open two new food terminals and 10 regional food hubs by 2028. This isn’t a handout to Loblaws. It’s infrastructure to break their stranglehold on the supply chain. Will it fix your grocery bill overnight? No. But building real competition into the system is how you get lasting price relief, not a rebate that disappears after one quarter.

Maybe the best solution for the Billy Bishop Airport is to close it entirely and reclaim the space for Torontonians to use as parkland. We could call it Toronto Place Park.
Those with private cottages don’t need urban green space. The Toronto Islands are an irreplaceable waterfront experience for city residents who have nowhere else to go. @fordnation @Peter_Tabuns @juliedabrusin @MarkJCarney @NoJetsTO

I find myself thinking of this cartoon every day when I look at social media
I don't hate Musk but I wonder if our tech overlords think it is OK if we point out that he is constantly amplifying white supremacist content? Or will we worthy of hate if we draw attention to that?

What's at stake if we expand Billy Bishop Airport? - 14,000 new homes for 10s of 000s of new residents - 100,000 jobs for skilled trades to build over decades - $13,000,000,000 into the economy - a brand new neighbourhood surrounded by park directly on our waterfront

"The sun doesn't shine at night." Neither do petrol stations refine fuel in your driveway, coal dig itself out of the ground, or gas teleport to your home. Every system has constraints. The winners solve them cheapest. The losers mistake today's problem for tomorrow's outcome.

So many of Ontario's problems go back to Mike Harris. In the years to come we'll be able to tweet about the same for @fordnation - a legacy of incompetence and malfeasance.
Hi Univrsle, Actually the change that is responsible for today’s record evictions occurred in 1997 when Premier Harris abolished rent control between tenancies. So as rents soared in the past decade due to house prices increasing landlords now evict tenants and double the rent.

Women have been saying for years that there is a growing backlash against gender equality, and every time the conversation comes up we’re told we’re imagining it. Now the United Nations is saying it. According to a UN report, nearly 1 in 4 countries reported setbacks in women’s rights and gender equality. Hundreds of millions of women and girls are living in conflict zones, violence against women remains widespread, and UN officials are warning about a growing backlash against women’s rights worldwide. The part that stands out to me isn’t even the statistics. It’s that women have been raising concerns about misogyny, online hostility toward women, violence, and attacks on reproductive rights for years, only to be dismissed as overreacting. If the UN Secretary-General is warning about the “mainstreaming of misogyny,” maybe it’s time to stop pretending these concerns came out of nowhere. Do you think women’s rights are genuinely facing setbacks, or do you think organizations like the UN are exaggerating the problem?

What these images really demonstrate is that there shouldn't be an airport on our waterfront at all. We have made and are making massive billions of dollars investments across the area, all of which will be heavily compromised or flat out obviated by an expanded Billy Bishop
