A few quick thoughts on Brendan Sorsby leaving college football for what he hopes will be the NFL holding a supplemental draft:
* Sorsby’s surprising win of a temporary injunction from a county judge in Texas had the perverse effect of rallying the college sports community against him and Texas Tech. It was a Pyrrhic victory that may have caused him and Texas tech more harm than good.
* Texas Tech facing a federal lawsuit by the Big 12 was a game-changer. At the end of the day, Texas Tech and other Big 12 member schools contractually assent to the Big 12’s right to punish schools. That’s really hard to get around. The conference is in the driver's seat.
* The NCAA wisely used Sorsby’s win of an injunction to advance its legislative goals. I’m not sure the Cruz-Cantwell bill will become law, but it seemed to gain more momentum when Sorsby won the injunction.
* Will an NFL team draft a player who bet against his own team, placed thousands of other sports bets, and has a gambling addiction and anxiety disorder? If you ran an NFL team, would you want him as your QB?
