Both things can be true!
I was talking to a YC partner about how well all the hard tech startups are doing. He said investors are hot to fund them because they're afraid AI will eat all software. I'm glad hardware startups are getting funded, but this is a mistake. Good founders are what wins.

Brunson gave up over $100 million and bet that he could lead the Knicks to a title and it really paid off. Called his own shot. Insane aura gamble.

few know this, but the poor actually had access to rockets and electric cars for free until Elon Musk decided to hoard them all for himself

the spacex ipo irks libs because they think meritocracy is a lib thing and it turns out meritocracy doesnโ€™t actually exist and the closest thing thing to actual meritocracy is capitalism and theyโ€™re bad at it because it rewards risk-taking not credentialism

just heard about an AI research lab that wanted funding for long-term research, so instead of raising money they apparently turned themselves into an HFT/quant shop and are trying to bankroll the research with trading profits and say they are already set for a few years ๐Ÿซช

Increasingly, I believe companies may need to be rebuilt from the ground up, where you have a single timeline of all observability product metrics file changes laid out in a retrievable system, like Datadog Posthog Google Drive Slack (really unified filesystem of Claude Code chats Codex chats). This might be the new data foundation for any and all companies to maximize AI. Needs to be rebuilt because keeping track of diffs on existing system basically impossible to produce longitudinal information on decisions and rollbacks, something coding agent storage companies are actively trying to figure out, but this should extend to businesses as a whole. Highly skeptical existing businesses will adopt this though because it means overhauling everything about their instrumentation and business data, but I think businesses built on this foundation probably can execute 100x better and faster

Six famous economists โ€” @JosephEStiglitz , @PikettyWIL , @jasonhickel among them โ€” published a manifesto in the @guardian last week: "growth is a doomed strategy." They say they've done the maths. I checked the maths. The claim that growth failed the poor is contradicted by the most uncontroversial dataset in economics: extreme poverty fell from 44% of humanity in 1981 to under 10% today โ€” during the very decades they call a failure. China alone lifted 800 million people, not with a UN roadmap, but with growth. The "92% of excess emissions" statistic? It's one of the authors citing his own paper, without saying so โ€” and it's not a measurement, it's a moral allocation dressed up as data. The policy toolkit โ€” "public control of strategic assets," "credit guidance" โ€” has a track record: Soviet collectivization, the Great Leap Forward, Venezuela, and Sri Lanka's 2021 fertilizer ban, which starved the poor it claimed to serve within eighteen months. What worries me most: degrowth is being marketed to young people who feel locked out โ€” telling them their stagnation is virtue. It's a swindle. The young aren't victims of too much growth. They are the first victims of its absence. Growth is the only anti-poverty program that has ever worked.

The world today is characterized by large-scale inequalities. And a climate crisis is looming over us. We urgently need a new vision for global progress in the 21st Century. One that grounds human development and equality in planetary habitability. What would it take to achieve high prosperity and equality while remaining within planetary boundaries? The World Inequality Lab is very excited to launch the #GlobalJusticeReport. [1/7]

We've been thinking a lot at Stripe about the Coasean lens on AI: - The obvious near-term effect is reduced transaction costs within companies: shared context, systems of record, aligned incentives etc. - But inter-company transaction costs also reduce sharply: agents are great at discovery, make it trivially easy to integrate; make contracting much more straightforward; agent-to-agent commerce. - On net, we think second effect bigger in medium term: fewer people per firm, more output per firm, just more firms, and more coordination happening through market-like mechanisms

A weekly jab in the belly is generating more revenue than the entire AI industry. Ozempic Mounjaro: $71B in 2025. OpenAI Anthropic: $29B. And they've barely started. ~2% of the 800 million eligible patients can currently access them. h/t @DrSamuelBHume
