GWOT vets- I’m working on an alternate concept to battle this mistake.
I’m just fleshing it out, and unlike the @GWOTMF, I actually care about what you think, and frankly, I could use the help fleshing it out. We need a monument that actually tells our story. One that an eighth grader in 2126 could visit and walk away with some understanding of who we were, what we did, and why we did it. It necessarily must TELL OUR STORY.
Towards that end, I maintain the walking path concept, but one that differs greatly from the hippie donut version. I want visitors generations from now to walk a path where they trace the history of the war, told in bronze statuary vignettes, with one (or more) for each year of the war.
It, of course starts with 9/11, then progresses through Afghanistan, rising in physical elevation requiring visitors to climb a staircase up a hill to convey the uneven, mountainous terrain. The path splits in 2003, branching off and downward to Iraq, which should effect more of an urban feel, with portions even mimicking a facade of a Baghdad alleyway. Major battles will be captured. It will honor heroism, loss, defiance, and the character of those who served.
Right now it’s just an idea in my head that is fighting like a madman to get out, but my only tools are grok and runway. Anyways, here are some AI generated mock-ups for some of the vignettes I envision. More in replies along with some descriptions

I can't believe this needs to be explained (again):
If someone earns money, it is not taking money away from you. Therefore, Musk being worth a trillion dollars has literally zero impact on your income.
If, however, someone /takes/ money from you (e.g., taxes), that directly impacts your income.
The former is an example of a non-zero-sum game.
The latter is an example of theft.
Someone being wealthy is not a case of theft, unless that wealth is the /direct/ result of them reaching into your pocket and taking what you earned.
Anyone butthurt about people being legitimately (i.e., not via theft, or breaking other laws) wealthy is simply jealous.
Do I hate millionaires? Fuck, no. Because on paper, I am one.
Did I hate millionaires before I was worth that much? Also no, because I wanted the opportunity to be one.
The whole idea that no one should have "too much money" is a weird self-hostile act that unnecessarily places an upper bound on your potential to succeed. It is short-sighted and detrimental to your own interests.

I'm Gen-X, not a boomer.
I grew up dirt poor. My parents were (and still are) natural born losers and never had a pot to piss in.
They gave me nothing and when they die, they have nothing to leave me other than the bill for their funerals.
I'm now in the "upper middle class".
My son had a much better, more stable childhood than mine and I'm subsidizing him now while he's working, going to college part time and trying to figure out what he wants to do.
So, yeah, I'm making things far better for my son, you useless, whiny, loser cunt.

As a former mental health professional, focused on GWOT guys for a decade, I'm telling you as a psych guy/combat trauma SME, go buy a sword. Find somewhere quiet and just sit/kneel with your sword. You're gonna feel better. Your ancestors did it for millenia. It works.

I too am 52 years old. I have been working since I was 15 years old. I have a savings, so do both my children (529 and UMTA), and owe my home outright due to extra principal payments and we are looking at buying a small rental property.
I also manage to lift weights 4 days a week, hold an important job, go to Mass, support and am a member of the American Legion, donate blood, and am a devoted husband.
None of this stuff is hard and there is no conspiracy against me; except my own sinful demons who I keep at bay through prayer and asking for God’s Grace. You are trapped in a prison you made for yourself.
Shame on you fellow Gen Xer. We are supposed to be better than that. Now go get out of the house and come back when the street lights turn on; and bring back some success with you.
