Everything is booked so it's official! I will be spending the end of the year in Tenerife, Canary Islands as an Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) Early Career Visitor! So excited to do some fun science, meet new people, and learn more about European astronomy efforts!
Dear friends who write NSF GRFP rec letters, this year rec letters are due BEFORE the applications, so about 10 days earlier than normal on Oct. 11. Please don't let NSF's deadline change on rec letters screw over the applicants in your lives.
I have been compiling all the historic G5 aurora pictures everyone has sent over and bookmarked some landmark records likely broken from that Did you see it? post two days ago. All I can say is wow. Here is each continents around the globe reports. 1/7
Since a crazy fraction of the world is seeing an #aurora right now, it’s a good time to highlight the awesome science we’re doing at @LowellObs by searching for AURORAS on EXOPLANETS! 🤯
Hey, #ExSSV! If you are excited about the prospects for finding auroras on exoplanets, come find me at poster 624.42 tomorrow (Thursday) and let’s chat! No auroras from exoplanets so far, but we’re knocking down those upper limits! I feel like we’re so close!
Super stoked to be speaking at the #EclipseOverTexas2024 event hosted by Lowell Observatory, Baylor University, Discovery, and the City of Waco! Coming to the event? Check out my talk about How Stars Shape Worlds at these times!
The EHT polarization images of M87* and Sagittarius A* indicate that these beasts have similar magnetic field structures. This suggests that the processes that govern how a black hole feeds and launches a jet may be universal features!

Breaking news: the Event Horizon Telescope team unveils strong magnetic fields spiraling at the edge of Milky Way’s central black hole, Sagittarius A*. This new image suggests that strong magnetic fields may be common to all black holes.
