Are you still responsible for Bishop Cosin's Almshouses on Palace Green, @durham_uni? The arms above the door seem to have been recently repainted - see my first picture. For comparison, picture 2 (on Cosin's Library) is how they should look. Could this be looked at please?

If these were some obscure arms I might understand, but these are the arms of the Diocese of Durham - there are dozens of copies of them around Palace Green, and probably half a dozen of them paired with Cosin's arms specifically.

Ahead of the expected proscription of Palestine Action - the first time a protest group has been legally redefined as terrorist - I went through the Hansard of the 2000 Act they're being banned under. Turns out MPs were assured the law wouldn't be applied this way. Thread šŸ§µšŸ”½

Interesting to see an Armed Forces Day flag replacing County Durham's at @DurhamCouncil HQ today. A month ago we were told no other flags would be flown because UK and Durham flags already represent us all - a change of heart, or is it just Pride that @reformparty_uk dislikes?

(Not an objection to the cause, but they can't remove one flag saying they object to all "cause" flags, then fly one for a different cause. If you're going to say that this has the Union Jack as part of it - I'll happily provide a UK/County Durham Pride flag if they'll fly it.)

I genuinely wanted you to prove I was wrong not to trust you, now you’re taking the PIP I need to be well enough to work and blaming it on low paid immigrants and refugees
I'm backing Britain’s young people. We're charging employers more to recruit from overseas and, if they do, they must prove they are investing in British workers and increasing British skills. That's the fair and right thing to do.

We were told Labour is listening, but anyone on the doors in Runcorn would have heard voters complain about winter fuel allowance, cost of living and general Govt incompetence. But rather than address these issues it engages in race to bottom with Reform theguardian.com/uk-news/2025…

I know you're angry about immigration. I get it. Mark my words: I will take back control of our borders. That means cutting migration, ending the use of asylum hotels, and ramping up our efforts to stop small boat crossings. We will smash the people smuggling gangs at source.

There is genuinely nothing more homophobic than thinking lesbians and gay men aren't attracted to people but simply sets of genitals. It's as bad as the bigots who scream "stop discussing your sex life" if anyone even mentions they're gay.

Netanyahu’s plan to ā€˜move’ Gaza’s people would be a vile act of ethnic cleansing against a population already facing genocide. Two months of total blockade have starved Palestinians. It must end now: reopen crossings, deliver aid at scale, and stop assaults on civilian lives.

She's right, and all the nasty bullying and pressure from "Gender Critical" feminists hasn't bowed her at all. Including some very nasty lesbophobia aimed at her because she stayed with a lesbian friend when split with husband. A friend who was married at the time!

🚨 It’s easy to stand up for minorities when it’s popular. Starmer & Streeting both did that. To stand up for them when they’re under attack, that takes a spine. ā€œWe are at risk of making the lives of trans people almost unliveable.ā€ - Nicola Sturgeon

Said Reform cllrs also are clueless on statutory obligations which are almost entirety of budget and can’t be cut. I’ll bet they don’t understand funding either, or how much it’s been cut to the bone. This could get very interesting. (I chaired Brent finance scrutiny.)

These results are just breathtaking. In any normal world there would now be a clamour for the dismissal of the architect of Labour's electoral policy, Starmer's Chief of Staff, Morgan McSweeney. This is a test of how tight his control over his phalanx of client journos is.

Reform councillors will soon find that contact with reality doesn’t work like they think: try explaining why you deprioritised flood defence after people’s homes get swamped. (Even though the council likely couldn’t afford to do it anyway, whoever was voted in).
Farage, crowing over his results, repeatedly says Reform will stop local authorities spending money on ā€œclimate changeā€. What Farage is saying that he doesn’t want you to be protected against what is coming. If Reform gets its way, there will be zero strategic climate adaptation.
