We're finally shedding the .so (thank you Somalia!), and using the .com for @NotionHQ. And for this beautiful moment, I want to share a fun story: Back in 2018, I had just joined Notion, and one of the first things @ivan asked me to do was figure out how we could own notion.com. I had never done a big domain purchase before, so I reached out to a few domain brokers to understand the landscape. We tried different brokers, kept things anonymous, and attempted to surface a price the seller might consider. A year went by… nothing. Meanwhile, it was pretty clear this was only going to get more expensive as we grew. We needed a different approach. A fellow founder connected me to a broker who took a very different tack. Less transactional, more long-term relationship builder. He spent months getting to know the domain owner. Turns out owner was a fellow entrepreneur in the west coast… and a huge Grateful Dead fan. So we figured, why not get creative? Something beyond just price. So I called up our investor Ronny Conway and asked if there was any way he could help set up a private meeting between the domain owner and the Grateful Dead. Ronny is one of those people who somehow makes impossible things possible. A week later he calls me back: “New York City. Halloween. 15 minutes after the concert. Done.” The broker went back to the owner with an offer: some cash, some equity, and a private meeting with the Grateful Dead. That got his attention. He didn’t take the band meeting in the end, but he did lean into the equity (great call, in hindsight). We shook hands, and a few weeks later, the deal was done. I’ve been waiting years for the day we move our product to notion.com. Looks like 2026 is finally the year. Safe to say I’m unreasonably excited about this update!

if you're fortunate enough to have gaby on your cap table run towards the opportunity she's a deep thinker, cares about the people she invests in, and most importantly, she wins
I’m excited to share that I’m joining Andreessen Horowitz as a Partner on the New Media team, focusing on the intersection of comms, networks, and investing. I’ve been working on these three things throughout my career, first in early-stage investing and most recently in comms at Rostra, writing about my perspectives and experiences along the way. For a long time, I thought these were three different paths I’d have to choose between. I’ve done comms, but I’m not just a comms leader. I write and build community, but I’m not just a writer or community builder. And I’ve invested, but I’m not just an investor. When @eriktorenberg approached me about the opportunity, he told me I could come do all of it under one roof, at a scale that wouldn’t be possible anywhere else, and crafted the right role to make it work. @a16z is the perfect place for me to manifest the full range of my interests, skills, and ambitions. Erik has been one of my earliest believers (since college!), so this feels like a long arc finally closing. I look forward to working alongside him and the rest of a16z’s brilliant team, and also hire even more great people into the firm. I’ll be taking some time between roles to touch grass and exist in the context. In the meantime, my DMs are always open.

dust.tt cool domain
Today we’re proud to announce that we’re leading Dust’s $40M round. Most enterprise AI is still single-player. Dust is multiplayer, humans and agents collaborating together, with knowledge compounding across the organization. 300,000 agents have already been deployed on the platform. Dust isn’t just building AI tools. They’re building the infrastructure for AI-native companies. Excited to partner with @gabhubert, @spolu , and the @DustHQ team.

airpod pro 3s also track heart rate
About one billion people worldwide own a device that can measure a vital sign or health parameter, if not even more. At the beginning of the digital health paradigm shift, back in the 2010s, having a health wearable was a rarity. Now it is becoming a common thing. We measure sleep quality, do fitness tracking, or manage diseases with such devices. Maybe, using generative AI for health and medical purposes will become as common as wearables are today. But it certainly won't take over a decade. Maybe a year or so. Exciting times!

when everything becomes instant and easy, how are people going to find meaning in their lives? human physical achievement, by nature, is AGI proof zooming out, you either need to be building for ai (in which case the labs are always a threat), or for humans (live entertainment, human competition, human connection, etc.)
be long post agi businesses: - entertainment - services - health & wellness - the labs themselves

if you're not saving every place you've ever walked past what are you even doing
For the last five years I've been working on what can only be described as a post-modern art project, saving every place around NYC I've ever enjoyed, walked past, or been recommended. The result is an absolutely unusable mess that I continue to add to out of sheer hubris

After buying broadcast dotcom for $8,000 in 1997, @mcuban went on a domain name buying spree when he realized he could use simple URLs to route traffic to the site. As a result, he says he now owns democracy dotcom, baseball dotcom, mrpresident dotcom, sandwich dotcom, finalfour dotcom, and more. "You name it, I've bought it."

Prediction: In less than 90 days, all channels that we thought were safe from spam & automation will be so flooded that they will no longer be usable in any functional sense: iMessage, phone calls, Gmail. And we will have no way to stop it.

more co-founders should be working out
The two hardest people for a CEO to manage out are: 1) A co-founder who isn’t working out 2) The Head of HR / People You’d think #2 would be easy. It should be. It rarely is. I know this advice violates the “VCs don’t do anything” meme, but having an operationally savvy VC help you handle these exits can save an enormous amount of brain damage. Not because you can’t do it but because you don't need to waste the calories. These situations are often irrationally emotional. Having someone neutral and detached often makes it far easier for everyone involved.

build for digital/ai or build for physical/humans otherwise you're literally just mid
The future of “stuff” will be bifurcated. You’ll either own a maximally digital, AI-enabled thing, or a maximally vintage analog thing. Everything in between will live in an undesirable uncanny valley.
