The Rust Re-writes of the GNU Coreutils (known as “uutils”), shipping by default in Ubuntu, has just shipped their 0.9 release. A few noteworthy details of the 0.9 release: - A significant amount of the work was scrambling to fix the (many) severe security bugs found during a recent audit. Not all were fixed. - The uutils team has started adding (a small number of) additional test cases to cover some of the GNU Coreutils functionality that is missing in uutils. Still only covers a small fraction of GNU Coreutils functionality. - Rust uutils test suite is now passing only 90.5% of test cases (down from 94.7% in the previous release). - This includes 5 previously passing test cases which are now failing, and 35 new test cases which fail. - Worth repeating: Uutils 0.9 passes significantly fewer test than 0.8. - There are 652 known issues in the Rust uutils 0.9 release. Many of which are severe security, performance, and compatibility issues. In theory this is the last significant update before the “1.0” release.
