We study the reproductive and developmental processes that occur around fertilization in Drosophila @Cornell. Tweets by the lab. @wolfnerlab@drosophila.social
Thrilled to share the final version of this story! Another chapter in the endlessly fascinating world of reproductive fluids, led by former grad student @NoraAndFauna 🪰💓🪰
Excellent new work from colleagues @NoraAndFauna and @WolfnerLab showing how an odorant binding protein might have become co-opted for a reproductive function in Drosophila. It's now required for mating plug formation and thus fertility! elifesciences.org/articles/8…
Mariana Wolfner and I seek an enthusiastic postdoc to work on an NIH-funded project to dissect the molecular basis for male-female interactions during and after mating. Join the exciting Drosophila research community at Cornell. Email ac347@cornell.edu.

ALT An explainer for skype a scientist that says "Skype a Scientist chat with scientists FOR FREE" followed by "How it works:
Step 1: Sign up on SkypeAScientist.com
Step 2: Pick types of science your group would like to talk about (30 categories!)
Step 3: Connect with your scientist via email and pick a time to chat.
Step 4: Talk to your scientist!" and a little logo of ours and these words "Skype a Scientist is a Philly-

Congrats to Chip Aquadro on his Lifetime Achievement Award 2022! (belatedly presented) A well deserved acknowledgment of his science, vision, leadership, and great mentorship #SMBE2023
1/14 🧵🔬 When it comes to studies involving different organisms, the unique communities, and terminology can create barriers to scientific advancement. We (@R_Mallarino & @C_Kratochwil)—researchers in mammalian 🐿🦓 and fish 🐠🐡 studies, teamed up to talk about color patterns!
We are pleased to announce that nominations for the 2024 GSA Awards are now open! Check out the new nomination process and instructions at our website, and learn more about a new award and our reimagined programs.

Cracking day discussing #science with students, the @cohen_lab peeps, @WolfnerLab and @mandidemestre. Pic is a CT scan of #drosophila copulating which Mariana kindly shared with me 🤩
ALT Title: "Accessibility in STEM Workshop Series: Creating and Maintaining Accessible Research Environments." The workshop will take place Thursday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Major congratulations to our latest PhD (coadvised by @ClarkLabCornell) Dr. @NoraAndFauna for successfully defending her thesis on the function & evolution of drosophila reproductive molecules! Our many thousands of arthropod lab members are abuzz with the news! 🪰
It is incredibly sad news to hear about the passing of Michael Ashburner. He was an incredible scientist, propelling both Drosophila genetics and genomics. A true leader that will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.
In 1000s of insects males eliminate all the genetic material inherited from their dads when making sperm. How? Why? We review the little that we know here authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti… as part of a great special issue @judithmank@HarmitMalik
