I just published a tool that I made for myself. You write cooking recipes in Markdown, with a handful of easy to follow conventions, and it generates nice looking recipe cards in PDF that you can print. Uses the amazing Prince XML by @yeslogic. github.com/oscherler/recipe-…

The things I work on at @yeslogic are pretty fun. This is a test case I created for text containing emoji, rendered on a path in an SVG, converted to PDF by @prince_xml.

@hsivonen I love your writeup of encoding_rs, I wish every library offered that level of insight into the design choices made by the author!

And it works! I'm using it to decode OpenType name table entries, which can be UTF-16 or MacRoman or who knows what. But perhaps we should be using it in our HTML parser as well instead of iconv 🤔

It is so much fun working on a print publication, which will be formatted using CSS. "So this is for the web?" "No, it's for print." "But ... CSS?" Rinse. Repeat. CSS. Not just for web browsers.
