Unreal Engine tip! You can use a components “Custom Primitive Data” AND an instance’s “per instance custom data” to offset your material world positions. You can use the depth buffer with a bump offset function to mask sprites by depth and conform them to the geometry. This is especially convenient for dynamic fake light, UI elements, character damage effects… #realtimeVFX #UnrealEngine #gamedev #vfx

mimalloc is great, however there was a lot of performance on the table for Unreal Engine 5 specific needs. Double digit percent uplift for single digit memory footprint cost. Compilers are smart. Turns out.

Distorting UVs can be a great way to add variation and achieve certain effects. For example, this shader pushes and pulls the UVs for a bulging or pinching effect. A quick way to add depth to panning textures #gamedev #realtimeVFX #UnrealEngine #indiegames #VFX
