The switch to high-affinity HU–DNA binding happens only at the target site, helped by DNA’s own flexibility. It suggests a concerted mechanism, bridging the gap between “induced fit” and “conformational selection.”

Overall, HU binds DNA in a multi-step process: electrostatic interactions build up gradually until the protein locks onto its target site. This prevents HU from sticking to random DNA along the way.

Looking forward to attending this meeting and having interesting discussions about ai vs physics-based modelling approaches 🙂
Biophysics, Stat Mech and Machine Learning will meet in Trento from July 7th to 11th, 2025 in our StatPhys29 Satellite Workshop "Molecular biophysics at the transition state: from statistical mechanics to AI": indico.ectstar.eu/event/252/. Co-organized with @ai_ngrosso.

This is one of the conferences where I have genuinely learned more. Delighted to contribute to this vision article.
An article talking about ‘Future directions of the prokaryotic chromosome field’. This vision article resulted from of a workshop organized at @lorentzcenter onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

📢 Preprint alert: How the structure of linear DNA is distorted by physiological levels of torsion and tension? 🧬🧬 The answer by all-atom simulations and it is similar from what we saw on minicircles with @alicepyne 👇(1/n) biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Having attended the previous edition, I can vouch for how insightful this conference is. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this vibrant community!
If you're interested in chromosome biology (DNA folding, gene regulation, replication, polymer modelling and more) we're organising the below this autumn. It'd be great to see you there. Please share if you can. :-)

So she was first author on his key paper - in fact she's on most of his key papers, yet she didn't get the Nobel Prize, in spite of the fact they could have given 3 awards, not just 2. Explain to me how STEM is not institutionally sexist.
Congratulations to our 2024 medicine laureate Victor Ambros ✨ This morning he celebrated the news of his prize with his colleague and wife Rosalind Lee, who was also the first author on the 1993 'Cell' paper cited by the Nobel Committee. #NobelPrize

We visited Tony Maxwell in Norwich last week, and he kindly accommodated us at his home. He mailed the socks I forgot back to me… 😂

🔈Our last paper on DNA elasticity and A-tracts has just appeared in Nanoscale: doi.org/10.1039/D4NR02571G. Simulations and analysis done by @TaniaGardasevic during her masters and @PhysicsofLifeUK summer studentship (so talented!🤯)
