There is now a zero percent chance Alabama ends up with a 7-0 map for the 2026 election cycle. Zero.
At this point, we’re playing for at best a 6-1 map that I would argue is itself now unconstitutional after the Callais decision.
In theory,
@kayiveyforgov could still call a special session to draw a 7-0 map after SCOTUS drops its ruling in Alabama’s favor in the next week or so. It would be both symbolic “Hey, Alabama. We heard you” and also proactive for the future.
But, my gut tells me she won’t do.
Lots of possible reasons why Montgomery will balk at the idea, but my guess is that the main reason rhymes with “schmabling.” SMH.
