Finally, great news! The successful conclusion of negotiations on the gradual elimination of #roaming charges between the European Union and the #WesternBalkans is set to deliver one of the most tangible and meaningful benefits of European integration for citizens and businesses alike. This achievement will enhance connectivity, facilitate travel and communication, strengthen people-to-people contacts, and create new opportunities for trade, investment, and economic cooperation across Europe. It is also expected to provide a significant boost to mobility and #tourism, particularly in #Albania, by making travel more convenient, affordable, and accessible for millions of European visitors. More than a technical accomplishment, it represents a concrete step towards the gradual integration of the Western Balkans into the EU Single Market and a more connected #European space. It demonstrates how the enlargement process can generate real and immediate benefits for citizens, even before accession. Bringing the Western Balkans closer to the European Union must be reflected not only through policies and institutions, but also through practical improvements that people can experience in their everyday lives. Lower communication costs, greater mobility, and stronger regional and European links are clear examples of how integration delivers tangible results. These commitments were at the heart of today’s discussions at the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, where leaders reaffirmed their shared determination to accelerate the region’s gradual integration into the European Union through concrete measures that bring citizens and businesses closer together. Albania strongly condemns yet another brutal and indiscriminate large-scale ballistic missile and drone #attack launched last night by Russia against civilian targets in Ukraine, in total disregard for human life and basic human decency. This time, the residential complex where the #Ambassador of Albania to #Ukraine resides was struck, putting his life at serious risk. This is unacceptable! Targeting or endangering civilian areas and #diplomatic personnel represents a grave escalation and another stark reminder of the human cost of Russia’s continued aggression. This war of choice has lasted for far too long. For more than four years since its illegal full-scale invasion, Russia has relentlessly targeted energy infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and homes across Ukraine. Yet it has failed to break the #courage, determination, resilience, and strength of the Ukrainian people. Russia is not winning; it is only killing, destroying, and inflicting widespread devastation and suffering. We reiterate our call on #Russia to immediately cease these attacks, put an end to the war against Ukraine, fully abide by international law, and return to negotiations. #Albania will continue to stand firmly with #Ukraine and reiterates its unwavering support for Ukraine’s #sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. At the panel “From Burden to Benefit: Making the Western Balkans' EU Accessions a European Geopolitical Win”, I conveyed a clear core message: among many strengths, #Albania brings to the European Union key, often undervalued, assets. First, predictability and credibility in its positions, consistently demonstrated through full alignment with the #CFSP, proven through actions, not just words. Second, an unwavering commitment across the entire country and society to its #European anchorage. Third, a sustained investment in bilateral and #regional cooperation, stability, and mutual understanding. Albania has been at the forefront of efforts to bring the #WesternBalkans closer together, helping shift the narrative, from a region once defined by division to one increasingly recognized as an integral part of South-East Europe. In this, Albania is proud to be leading from the front. At a time when the EU must reaffirm its role in an unpredictable world and act as a stronger geopolitical actor, consistency and reliability are not details or technicalities, they are strategic assets.

At the #Delphi Economic Forum, speaking on the panel on EU enlargement in the #WesternBalkans, I underlined that for #Albania, European accession is not simply and only about alignment with the acquis, but also its effective implementation and the delivery of real results. We are advancing on key reforms and strengthening institutions in parallel: building a more professional and merit-based public administration, a more independent and professional justice system, and increasingly digitalised public services. Every step forward in the #negotiations is matched by concrete implementation capacity on the ground. Our objective remains the same: to close all negotiation chapters by 2027 and be ready for EU membership by 2030. This is and should remain a merit-based process, where progress must reflect tangible results and be met with timely decisions that preserve the credibility of #enlargement. Enlargement is a shared #European project and a strategic investment in the continent’s security, stability, and cohesion. We must maintain and sustain the momentum with all Member States, including in particular with partners like #Greece who understand the region and its importance, and translate commitments into concrete deliverables. #Shqipëria2030 #Horizon2030

On the margins of the #Delphi Economic Forum, I met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Greece, George Gerapetritis, to continue our constructive and forward-looking dialogue on Albanian–Greek relations. 🇦🇱🇬🇷 Building on the meeting held earlier today in #Athens between our Prime Ministers, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in a spirit of mutual trust, good neighbourliness, and strategic partnership, firmly anchored in our common #European future and #NATO Allied solidarity. To this end, we agreed to engage actively and concretely at all levels, with dedicated teams, to address outstanding issues and work towards balanced, durable solutions in the interest of both our countries and our citizens, opening a new chapter in our bilateral relations. Unlocking the full potential of our partnership is, in itself, a direct investment in the bilateral friendship and cooperation, but also in stability, prosperity, and a shared European future for our region. In parallel, we agreed to make full use of every opportunity to intensify political dialogue and expand economic cooperation, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and tourism, while promoting greater connectivity and people-to-people exchanges. I also expressed our appreciation for Greece’s consistent support for Albania’s EU accession and for its continued advocacy of enlargement in the #WesternBalkans, including by keeping it high on the agenda of this year’s Delphi Forum. We welcome Greece’s commitment to work closely with the upcoming EU Presidencies of #Ireland and #Lithuania to ensure that enlargement remains a key #European priority.
