@PaulBrannenNE excellent letter highlights a trend of certain groups ignoring the facts. Unfortunately media outlets like the Guardian are all to happy to promote bollocks.
We don't plant monocultures in England and Scotland. It is illegal to do so. The end.
I've a letter in today's Guardian both the paper and online. It's inaccurate when opponents of growing our own timber (who support growing our own food) state that in the UK we are planting Sitka monocultures - we are not.

My morning walk around some agri environment plots in Cambridgeshire this morning.
What seemed like millions of oxide daisy’s and common blue butterflies.
I’m a big fan of Guy Martin but even if you have never heard of him this is a fantastic hour long interview. It’s the best piece of radio I’ve listened to in a long time. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002x4…
If you want to set up a group to litter pick there are LOTS of helpful resources out there
The simplest may be to join @Cleanup_UK
They have a very useful website with H&S/risk assessment stuff on it, and a map so you can find one of their many groups

I have my DSC1 Assessment day today. It’s time that all landowners took responsibility for a problem out of control. If you love wildlife, eat venison apple.news/AB7U9nub2SzSDNMww…
Rant.
Which I wasn't going to do because it will attract abuse, but such is life and I think it's important to point out.
There is an increasing number of activists/orgs that think taking action without consideration of consequences is ok. It's not.
This is true pro-activism. @paulpowlesland is a real British hero.
Actually improving nature despite legal threats and insane Government bodies.
Really puts the environmental virtue-signallers to shame.
Great piece from @Channel4News
#positiveforestry again look.
The forestry sector brings all sorts of benefits but without people like Matt to do the work required we can't take advantage of them.
It might look a bit much at the time but look what's achieved long term. Wish more people understood this.
I made a site visit today to a coppice compartment I felled a couple of years ago. The woodland floor was covered in common spotted orchids. Encouraged by the increase in light levels this shows the vital importance of woodland management to sustain positive, rich habitats.

‘Right to routes’, ie joining up existing disjointed rights of way and restoring ‘lost ways’, seems a sensible suggestion. No right to roam but better public access around private land etc. 🦮🚶🏻♂️🌳 #RightToRoutes#RightToRoam#R2R
Something a bit different today. In a woodland I thinned last year I have been grinding and mulching stumps on the line of a new circular woodland walk. This is a diversification project for my farming client. Without the stumps the paths can be managed with a standard mower.
I finally heard my first turtle doves calling this morning at Wakelyns nr Metfield. Up till now I’ve visited other sites where I have heard them previously but failed to hear anything. Is there a feeling that numbers are down so far this year? @stuttonsparrows@GrahamDenny9
We have lived in our house 15 years and we have never had a Bee Orchid come up in the front lawn. I don’t know of any local populations. So where has it come from? Glad it did though.
Nice find this weekend
Both in the same place, steps apart.
Mixed mosaic wooded, scrubby, wet, grazed land for the win huh?!!
Also side eye at the ‘denuded Dartmoor due to farmers’ narrative… 🙄
