I'm not referring to any particular tool. I'm referring to how scientists are presenting their science and that of others. It's getting so bad that it's impossible for any non-domain expert to believe anything anyone claims. This is extremely troubling for credibility of science.

Excellent example of the core issue I was trying to get at wrt "virtual cells" - optimizing a prediction objective will not necessarily provide an accurate representation of physical or biological phenomena. It's extremely important to be very clear about this. 1/

Can an AI model predict perfectly and still have a terrible world model? What would that even mean? Our new ICML paper formalizes these questions One result tells the story: A transformer trained on 10M solar systems nails planetary orbits. But it botches gravitational laws 🧵

It was a dark time in the pre-Benchling era in my "ecosystem." Worth noting that people who say this exist. Long live @benchling and props to their VCs.
Huge respect and admiration for Benchling, but I cant take one more vc telling me about their “strategy” of being free for academics and then selling to them once in industry. That was a mistake! Later re-packaged into a cute story that is very hurtful to our ecosystem.

There was a study where they put EDM DJs on anti-alzheimers drugs and within 14 days all 29 participants didn’t want to be DJs anymore

NYC's public college system paid Oracle ~$600M to build our course management portal. It's built on top of Oracle's PeopleSoft suite, which they refused to customize without an extra $400M (to hit $1B). New Yorkers got the image below and pay $5M / year for *hosting*.

Fascinating study @NatureComms from @RohacsTibor showing that phosphatidic acid can regulate PIEZO2, the mechanosensitive ion channel — and so glad to see yet another application “in the wild” of optoPLD, @ReikaTei’s optogenetic membrane editor for phosphatidic acid! #lipidtime
I always had a hunch that phosphatidic acid regulates ion channel function. This paper from @RohacsTibor and colleagues shows this nicely. nature.com/articles/s41467-0… #IonChannels

The best clickbait is google images molecular clickbait. How else do you read a calcium signaling paper with a "Parabolic Flight Experimental Design" methods section. mdpi.com/2227-9059/10/1/138

Tried to express and purify your own Tn5 transposase only to run into stability or activity issues? Our new @biorxiv preprint describes OpenTn5: a robust, high-yield protocol for producing a stable pG-Tn5 transposase fusion. Spearheaded by @Jan_Soro. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Incredibly cool. And now all I can think about is making homemade flag M2 antibody...
Our paper @MFPronker @JWBglnk on the structure of anti-FLAG-M2 in complex with the FLAG-peptide (DYKDDDDK) is now peer reviewed @JMolBiol 🎉 sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

We posted a new preprint (biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…). We've been thinking about how to characterize TF function. One challenge is that function and occupancy are difficult to disentangle. We use a simple model and a simple system to test how promoter features change function.

I love it. If we can agree Zirp was necessary & sufficient for the onset of the trend, is Zirp required for sustained maintenance?
