@BeyondDSAPT and @AfdoOffice are beyond pleased to see the City of Ryde has had its frankly embarrassing bus stop temporary exemption firmly rejected in a preliminary judgement by @AusHumanRights humanrights.gov.au/sites/def… #auspol #auspol22

'The Commission does not regard it as appropriate to use its power to grant temporary exemptions to certify, potentially on a continuing basis, that unjustifiable hardship exists.' Don't underestimate how powerful this statement is. We welcome this firm line in the sand.

A number of us including our chair, demanded a full inquiry into roles & responsibilities of airlines and airports given the patently unwilling attitudes of airlines like @JetstarAirways to change at the recent Aviation Access Forum. This must happen now @AusGovInfra @AfdoOffice

This confirms what we already knew. The airline industry has lost control of their own service delivery model and must be reigned back in. We need a true regulatory mechanism that can act to ensure no one else suffers like this. #auspol #DisabilityRights news.com.au/travel/travel-up…

So, if you wonder why accessible tourism has issues look at the airlines and their attitudes. @Qantas half the fun is getting there apparently, fk me. Great customer service is a phrase that needs to be understood and implemented. #inclusion #tourism

Sadly yes it is. But even if it wasn't regular it still wouldn't be good enough. We need airlines to understand a mobility aid isn't a set of golf clubs. One is a luxury. One is a necessity.

Why school transport is still exempt from standards 20 years later is discrimination at best and neglect and exploitation at worst. #IncludeUsFromTheStart @CydaAu

Non accessible school transport is the beginnings of a steady slide into segregated living for many disabled kids. This should not be accepted in 2022. Our new Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport MUST include inclusive school transport. #DisabilityTwitter

This will impact regional Australians as well. Truly an amazing decision. @BeyondDSAPT the line in the sand has been drawn. We need a stronger DDA and greeter powers for the AHRC. PwD take a look and if you aren't already angry, raise your voice enough is enough.
These type of decisions ensure that PwD will not get equal access to services, deprive people of employment opportunities. The DDA shouldn't be used due to companies poor foresight and design. @BenGauntlettDDC @AlboMP Its time to change things up.

‘Legacy’ - a very good word we should be asking & reminding the powers to be how future events, host cities, councils, state / federal Government (let alone transport providers) will enable positive legacies for people with disabilities to occur? What’s are their real fears?

NITAN holds firm concerns the granting of exemptions such as these announced this afternoon set the disabled rights movement back. Finding 10 of the 3rd DSAPT review noted concerns of rolling over exemptions. Yet it continues. More to come. #humanrights humanrights.gov.au/sites/def…

Im wondering what the position of @Greens @AustralianLabor is on the compliance of accessible bus stops/buses/trains etc Many place around Oz still dont have proper access to public transport. Buses and bus stops should be compliant by the end of the year. what will you do?

Let’s hope that the state and local councils get on board by making at the very minimum bus stops accessible for all. @BeyondDSAPT .The opportunity is there. Once you have a public transport system, we need a commitment from all for all.

There are many factors to bus and mobility aid safety. Not all being related to the #disabled person or their #mobilityaid. Whilst there may be safety concerns they must be well discussed and evidenced based. Good engagement is key to public policy #transportforeveryoneeverywhere
Well investigated and explained article by @johnstonloretta Involving the disabled community in evidenced based decisions makes for a healthy engagement process. #Disability 'Calls for Metro Tasmania to lift blanket ban on three-wheeled mobility scooters' abc.net.au/news/2021-07-31/t…

Great work that needs to be repeated throughout the country. Unfortunately the first step to a viable complaint is knowledge of the current situation. Thankfully the Victorian enquiry gave us this. A compliance audit should be repeated across the country.

The context here. I worry it will reduce the ability for reasonable protest. An #advocacy group calling attention to non compliant transport infrastructure with a sit in for example. 'Coalition accused of using charity crackdown to silence dissent' theguardian.com/society/2021…

Wow @Dr_LisaStafford glad you are ok. Shows we need not only compliant infrastructure and conveyances as built but a rigorous system of checks whilst in service. Sadly not enough state gov transport authorities have accessible features front of mind in their compliance regimen.

From a blind friend in WA - ‘I went into the city this afternoon to get some things done. I found that the volume on all the audible traffic lights in almost every intersection was turned down making it extremely difficult for me to hear the signals and locate them.’
