On my second day, I had a very productive meeting with Deputy
@lyndonfarnham , The Chief Minister (Head of Government) of
#Jersey. We discussed how to leverage our mutual assets so as to strengthen and expand trade and investments between Kenya and Jersey. He further updated me on the steps his government is taking to enhance the experiences of
#Diaspora in Jersey including issues of
#SkilledWorkerPermits. I lauded him on these developments. Indeed, one such sign was having the Head of Service, Customs and Immigration of Jersey, among other officials attend and address the colourful diaspora event the evening before.
In a separate meeting, this commitment to a better diaspora experience was reinforced by Deputy
@CarolynLabey , the Minister for International Development who also serves as the Assistant Minister for External Relations. Citing her experience visiting African countries, Minister Labey encouraged more engagement including in agriculture with the famous Jersey cows as a tried and tested product. We also discussed the participation of Jersey Finance in the upcoming Kenya International Investment Conference (
#KIICO). We also agreed to host a cultural event later this year in
#Partnership with the Jersey government to showcase Kenya’s rich cultural heritage.
