UPDATE: With elections for the Federation of Uganda Medical Interns (FUMI) set for 27th September 2025, interns in Yumbe District, led by Socrates Joseph Odongo, are pushing for reforms through a set of "irreducible minimums." #NTVNews Odongo, a presidential candidate, promises to prioritize finalizing the internship policy, financial justice, structured career paths, post-internship employment plans, and better engagement with the Ministry of Health. Given the persistent issues of non-deployment and inadequate pay for medical interns, what have our seniors in the profession done in streamlining the medical profession? Genuinely asking 🤷🏽‍♂️ What specific actions have you taken to address these challenges, particularly in the context of the over 1100 stranded medical graduates? We had previously engaged with the UMA to call for an industrial action, unfortunately this wasn’t granted. The plight for medical interns isn’t about unavailability of funds as some officials are saying. It all comes down to planning and financing priorities. All we want is to do our mandatory internship and be able to practice medicine as well as advance our careers through various masters programs, this can’t happen without a practicing license.
