In the avoidance of doubt as the post below is unclear:
This EU Council legal opinion could be a game changer:Â trade with the Israeli illegal settlements can be stopped with qualified majority.
On Monday, we are calling on the EU member states to BAN all trade in goods and services with Israel illegal settlements.
This is what international law demands, as set out in the ICJ advisory opinion of July 2024: the EU’s clear legal obligation is to prevent trade and investments that assist in the maintenance of Israel’s unlawful occupation of the Palestinian territory, including the establishment, expansion and maintenance of illegal settlements.
This EU Council legal opinion could be a game changer: tariffs on all trade from and to the Israeli illegal settlements can be adopted with qualified majority.
Will EU Governments have the courage to stand by and for international law, and by so doing, protect Palestinian communities from further forcible transfer out of the West Bank?
They have an opportunity (yet again) to do the right thing on Monday.
