Feargal Sharkey explains that this £100bn figure everyone keeps quoting for the cost to renationalise the water industry comes from a report by the private companies! Feargal then outlines why nationalising the water industry wouldn't cost us a penny #GMB

I'm going to try a little experiment. It's just gone 9:00am, London and parts of southern England are under an "Amber" weather warning, let's how long it takes for the sewage dumping to start and how it progresses over the next few hours. Oh look, it's only been raining for a few hours and the dumping's started already. Well done to @SouthernWater, @thameswater, @AnglianWater.

How much do I absolutely love the #savewindermere campaign? What a brilliant idea. Wonder has @MattStaniek produced a template so everyone else can get their council to issue a statutory nuisance notice against the local water company? Bravo. 👏👏👏
⛔️ More breaking news ⛔️ In a first of its kind in the UK, we have just filed a statutory nuisance complaint against United Utilities to Westmorland and Furness Council. Save Windermere, working with environmental barrister Nicholas Ostrowski, is demanding that Westmorland and Furness Council immediately investigate a statutory nuisance complaint made by the campaign. We have now provided evidence to the council of sewage dumping in and around Ambleside. If the council finds that a nuisance has occurred arising from the sewage discharges by the water company, an abatement notice will be served requiring sewage discharges from Ambleside Wastewater Treatment Works and other locations around Ambleside to be limited or halted altogether. If United Utilities fail to do so, they will risk being prosecuted and fined until the nuisance ceases. We have clearly demonstrated a nuisance has occurred, with evidence documenting 113 incidents of discharging into and around the river Rothay in Ambleside over a 13 month period. You can now read the full story by heading to the link below. savewindermere.com/news/stat… With all of the scientific and data collection work we undertake, the aim is to create change and action - this is just one example of that. It’s taken us a year, working with our volunteer network, to collect this evidence and produce this work, and now we must pressure those that have the power to do something about this, to do what is right for our local community and for the nation; protect Windermere from sewage. Head to our website to see how YOU can take action ahead of the general election, including signing our 10-point plan for a sewage free Windermere and joining us on 29th June for our March Against Sewage. savewindermere.com

E. coli levels in the #RiverVer chalk stream have been confirmed at six times the bathing standard. Our May samples show discharges from Markyate STW have contaminated the river. 2024 spills are 2400hrs and continuing, even in the current dry weather. riverver.co.uk/e-coli-levels…
