The attempts of the @RCPhysicians to cling on to the vestiges of what they once supported is quite ...amazing The requirements to be... Certificate in Geriatric Medicine Knowledge-Based Assessment Lead includes being a PA for 7 years. I predict this is a degree anyone can do and be equated to specialist training in near future too. @GeriSoc - are you saying a Consultant of 3 years experience and a PA of 7 years experience are at par? Cos that's....something Link: bgs.org.uk/vacancy-certifica…

Dear @jamesmurray_ldn , General Practice delivers 90% of NHS activity on less than 10% of the budget. 34p per patient per day. 30 million appointments every month. Still the only part of the NHS not routinely running a deficit. Your government talks about “shifting care into the community” while starving the very service expected to deliver it. If you want to save the NHS, fund its front door. If General Practice collapses, the NHS collapses with it. @NHSEngland @DHSCgovuk @TheBMA @rcgp @NHSConfed @TheKingsFund @NuffieldTrust @HSJnews @BBCFergusWalsh @ShaunLintern @bbclaurak @Peston @doctor_katie @dave_dlt @DustynSaint @Parody_RCGP @DrSteveTaylor @medicaccountant @ankitkant @DrSelvarajah #sl210x @medicalmodelbri @parthaskar @BBCHughPym @rcgpnorth @rcgp @BMA_GP @DHSCgovuk

In a nutshell? Anyone can be a Consultant working in primary care Apart from a General Practitioner. Which is what happens when a College forgets what their basic role is And individuals champion themselves rather than serve who they are supposed to lead #TuesdayTruth

Why protecting patient data is the first thing that GPs are doing as part of collective action? Seems a little odd? Until you realised that the Government is planning to take away the data controller role from GP practices The same Government signing contracts with Palantir
GPs in England are launching collective action TODAY, after our GP committee voted that Government proposals don’t go far enough. We’re taking action on data sharing agreements, because policy proposals have not gone far enough to convince GPs that the profession will be protected. Finally, the media is waking up to the worst scandal in British healthcare, exposing the insidious danger posed by ACPs. Individual-level actors at departmental level, to national policy level by @DHSCgovuk and @wesstreeting, have a lot to answer for! theguardian.com/society/2026…

I must say...I am yet to understand what is the difference between a 'Neighbourhood Health Centre' or the need to have it. Rather than resource GP surgery adequately and do things that way. Unless this is just simply about 'We just dislike GPs' and want anyone else to lead it.

Resident doctors told us that advanced practitioners were used on their rotas. Our data shows this is the case, appearing to be in breach of NHS guidelines in England. NHSE says APs “should not replace the roles of doctors”, yet here we are. theguardian.com/society/2026…

Why newly qualified [insert any NHS ROLE] can’t get NHS jobs despite shortages? It's down to the complete ineffectiveness of the NHS Workforce team. Their leader has destroyed countless careers, sent thousands of people to Australia at a massive loss and is still being celebrated

GP leaders will vote on taking general practice 'outside the NHS' next month amid warnings that existing contracts are unworkable and that an 'Amazon-style' unlimited access model is driving unsustainable demand. Full story: gponline.com/gps-debate-quit…

🧵 A cautionary tale of a GP future not yet here: The BMA says a safe working day for a GP is 25 patient contacts. Above that, diagnostic error rates rise, adverse events rise, burnout accelerates. It is a safety number, not a productivity number. @doctor_katie @Parody_RCGP

This should be front page news🚨‼️ @wesstreeting & @SKinnock are removing OUR RIGHT to make referrals to secondary care & YOUR RIGHT to a specialist opinion/care/treatment/surgery etc. Ignore the spin… @UKLabour are smashing the #NHS up w/ a sledgehammer! @LaylaMoran 1/3 🧵

The practice manager manages the practice. Don’t understand why you are so keen to make this the GP practices problem and not the hospital who are rejecting the referral? Help me understand why this is the GP practices circus?

The absurdity of NHS workforce planning in a nutshell NHSE Chief Executive: We’ll reduce our reliance on doctors Health secretary: We’ll expand medical school places (but not jobs after qualification) 🔴 Poorer patient care 🔴 Higher resident doctor unemployment Farcical
Wes Streeting has pledged to tackle inequality in the medical profession and increase the number of people who go on to medical school by 50 per cent over the next decade trib.al/ClGuzZf

Solution to this could be whenever a patient's referral gets rejected, write to hospital asking for name and GMC number of consultant that rejected it. Shift burden back into secondary care > becomes unworkable > drive reform back the other way.
We absolutely must know the name and position of the person rejecting the referral. This does not always happen even in the current A&G system. GPs are community equivalents of hospital consultants and anything less than a consultant rejecting a referral would be a travesty.

Concerning. A GP says you need a referral to a specialist.A non-medical professional decides if the GPs decision (7years training) gets actioned. Hey Presto waiting list down, #Labour gives itself a 👏Patient still needs a referral, who tells them they’re not getting it 🤔
Your GP says you should see a hospital specialist for your condition Labour’s new Single Point of Access now decides whether that GP referral goes through They have a target to "redirect" 25% of referrals I wanted to know: who is making that decision? I asked the Minister 👇
