Guardianships are killing seniors and destroying families. Prosecutions and reform of this predatory industry are desperately needed. Attorney General Dana Nessel is doing more to combat guardianship abuse than any other Attorney General but there is so much push back from the Guardianship industry, Judges, and Attorneys it has taken 5 years just to get 4 guardianship bills passed the Senate. In my opinion the biggest threat to seniors in guardianship is from professional guardians and predatory attorneys. In Michigan there has not been prosecutions of professional guardians and predatory attorneys to any substantial degree, and the abuses are escalating. Prosecute these guardianship acts as criminal using federal code--e.g. fraud, embezzlement, racketeering, estate and human trafficking. Investigate the lack of oversight by public officials, counties like Wayne, Macomb Gennesse and Monroe in Michigan are among the biggest perpetrators and have the highest cases of abuse. Dana Nessel created the Elder Abuse task force but there are no victims who have experienced the abuses first hand on the task force. They need elder justice advocates who can break down the predatory strategies on the task force not guardians, attorneys, and judges. You don’t have the Fox guard the hen house so you don’t need the predators on the task force. It makes no sense. Guardianship is not about Protection it’s about Profits and “Predatory Attorneys” and “Guardians” will do so by any means necessary, neglect, isolation, over medicate etc.. and the Judges will approve it because this industry has no oversight or accountability. This needs to change! This is a NATIONAL CRISIS.
