Hot off the biorxiv press! 🔥 @SamuelLaraR finds GBP5 enhances macrophage glycolysis via glucose uptake, GTPase activity dependent and as being cis-Golgi localised. Bonus finding, GBP5 is important for full M1 macrophage functionality. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Intriguing functions for GBP5, ascribing it a broad immunoregulatory role during inflammation. 💥 Thanks to all collaborators and our funding sources! 🙏

Welcome to the lab @umeshchopra17 ! Looking forward to exciting science! 🤩
Excited to start my postdoc research in Dr. Eva Frickel’s lab @FrickelLab, @MIMOL_UNIGE ! jumping into the world of innate immunity. Looking forward to learning, collaborating, and doing some cool science! 🔬✨

Check out this new paper by @avi_cmbi lab - GBP1 can detect extracellular bacteria from the inside of cells! 😎 LPS solubilisation, Toxoplasma vacuole disruption and now immunity through actin binding - what a superpower protein! 😬 Happy to have supported this project!
📢A new effector-triggered immunity role for GBP1! No place for pathogens to hide now that GBP1 can detect extracellular pathogens that hijack the actin cytoskeleton. Surprise*suprise* GBP1 does this independently of LPS! 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

V for voyage. As Christmas comes and the New Year, I remember that we’re all on a voyage. My eyes are wide open now to every day of the voyage. Every day counts - we learn, we work, we live, we connect to others, but most importantly we don’t postpone. #lifeafterloss
V is for voyage. After Alexander died, I promised him that I'd stop making excuses about things I wanted to do. So I booked a trip to Australia for him. Isabelle was the dream travel companion. She loved it.I'm so glad I didn't know what was to come & just savoured every second.💕

After we lost Leo, @criminographer was our first lifeline. Her son Alexander and Leo were close in age when they died. We mourn the loss of her daughter Isabelle by the same genetic condition as Alexander. Consider helping her family to gain some breathing room. 🙏
Thanks so much for all the condolences for the loss of Isabelle. We're so grateful for offers of help but as we can't think straight at the moment,a colleague has kindly done a fundraiser page until we can function enough to know what we need.Thank you x justgiving.com/crowdfunding/…

Awesome work @DanielHFisch and @jkagan1 and team! This elegantly demonstrates the power of studying the endogenous proteins in real time in their native environment! 😎👏 Loving the innate immune cell biology, the best! 😍

Pathogen battling p62! #autophagy 😎 Happy to have made a small contribution and congratulations to all authors!👇
The main story of my PhD research project is finally out in @JCellBiol today! rupress.org/jcb/article/223/… We were looking at how Vaccinia virus circumvents host immunity by disabling the autophagy machinery through depletion of sequestome-like receptors (SLRs). For a 🧵see below:

Important read for all of us studying cell-autonomous defences to pathogens. The guns (here lysosomes) each cell type has will be different AND (!) be loaded differently (aka differ in function and response) within a cell type. Yep, diversity in biology at its best! 😬😅😎
🔥#Lysosome aficionados: excited to see this perspective we wrote with @claudiobussi 🤩 @TheCrick in @PLOSBiology out! 🧵👇journals.plos.org/plosbiolog…

Congratulations to @ewald_lab and team for putting a new post-translational modification - nitration driven by iNOS - at the heart of the vacuole-targeted killing mechanism of #Toxoplasma. Huge news!! >25 years after the discovery that iNOS is somehow important! 👍😎😍
Excited to share our new story explaining how macrophages use nitric oxide derivatives to shut down Toxoplasma evasion of cell-autonomous immunity. Congrats to @zhaoxyu6 and the team! link.springer.com/10.1038/s4…
